Boro 4-1 Newcastle Utd

Love the beam back footage of the expected 'promotion party'. I bet the toon didnt get many tickets that game. You had to have stubs from the previous 3 or 4 home games if memory serves me right to get a ticket in the boro end
 
Reading the nostalgia piece reminded me that it all started right after news came through that Leeds were winning at Bournemouth and the crowd went mad. Makes you wonder what effect that had on the players.

....... who in turn lost to Swindon but then still got promoted 'cos Swindon were punished for some indiscretion or other. Which of course further enraged the Geordies.:LOL:

Don't know, which is disappointing considering I spent half a life time looking at the bloody thing from the South Terrace. The score board which was either side of the clock (Home/Away IIRC) never worked either, think it blew up when we beat Sheff Wed 8-0. I remember when the half-time scores were displayed under letters (needed a programme to work 'em out). Originally I think someone hung out numbers for the half-times and they were along the front of the North Stand then eventually they were 'electronic' boards at either end of the stand (which eventually packed up as well). When I think back to 'technology' at Ayresome I wonder how the hell we built Colossus at Bletchley Park and cracked Enigma.:)

I remember the fanfare for the electronic scoreboard. I think they said " Its the first in the country ". You still needed to have a programme to decipher their code
why could we not get a giant electronic Casio closk?

I'd forgotten about that. When Swindon were denied promotion (illegal payments?), Newcastle were claiming as they finished 3rd they should be promoted. I seem to recall the media considered it favourably as the playoffs were still new-ish then.

The programme aspect was a bit of a stumbling block for me, spent most of half time trying to peer over the bloke in front's shoulder. Might have been Erimus for all I know. :D
