TV Series they should bring back

Aye a lot of these suggestions wouldn’t work as the recipe of success just can’t be repeated. Bob Harris, comedy geniuses that made them are long gone or too old. Updating classic old programmes just doesn't work for me.

However if the OP means repeating old shows that aren’t shown in which case yes bring back Treasure Hunt with Anneka. You could never repeat It’s a Knockout given Stuart Hall being the central success of the show.

I'm mostly in agreement with that Dood
I'd like to see a new interpretation of 'UFO' - some of the outfits and hair etc was pretty wild back then though the colouring has been pretty accurate in recent years.

Doing prequels rather than bringing an original back has been successful for at least one show I loved, that being Inspector Morse (the only show I remember leaving me distraught when the character died) the Endeavour series is a top show for me.

If you look at US TV then I think you can see why it's not always a good idea. I'm thinking of Magnum, Hawaii 5-0 and others that they've redone. Best to leave the classics alone.

Hawaii 5-0 reboot is hardly a disaster currently making its way through its 10th season. People who have a fondness for the original source material often look at reboots and alternate versions with rose tinted glasses.

It might not be a disaster Fair, but I'm personaly of the opinion that TV and movies should try and be original and not just vehicles for milking as much cash as possible.

To my mind I'd rather have a few episodes of something like Fawlty Towers than see it done to death like The Big Bang Theory which started off really well, but then became stale as it went on far too long.

Same with movies and the obsession with remakes, some of which aren't even remaking what you'd class as old movies. Don't get me started on stuff like the Italian Job either.

All opinions though isn't it - you like an older style of comedy it seems. Fawlty towers is a minnow compared to Big Bang Theory - unfortunately you are no longer the demographic that TV is made for. Ratings for Big Bang Theory went up over time, so you thought it went stale but more and more people tuned into it. It was consistently one of the top 2 shows for its final 6 seasons. I'd rather watch something that I find funny, and have a lot more of it available. I like the UK office, and find it funny - but I far prefer the character development and story arcs, and seasons with 22 episodes apiece, of the US office.

In 20-30 years time people will be taking the same view on remakes of things made in this generation of TV. Every generation thinks their comedy was the funniest, their music was the best and most original, they invented sex and new stuff isn't as good as the old stuff.

Film studios wouldn't make remakes if people didn't go and see them.

Far from it, I like modern comedies too such as 'It's Always Sunny...', 'Silicon Valley', 'Veep' and others. My point was, at some point a show will run out of steam and in my mind it's far better to quit while you're ahead than to just get to the point where you're phoning it in and risk tarnishing the whole thing. Look at the reactions to the last season of GoT to see how it can impact a shows legacy.
