Club is on its ****

I think it's hard to accurately assess where we are due to the extensive injuries disrupting so many players seasons, but it's safe to say that we are nowhere near a playoff team. We don't play the game in a way where having a team that is compact and organised pays dividends and we don't have the quality to consistently win playing like we do. We don't defend well, we are lightweight in midfield and we are ineffective up front. Add the current lack of pace to that too.
If, as I suspect, we continue to lose any decent players we currently have and replace them with punts then we're not building, more relying on luck.

I'd also add the managers belief/stubbornness into that. I think 90% of fans would pick Dieng in goal and have played Forss central as our only option, seeing as the club decided we don't need any strikers/goal threat in January.

Massive overhaul needed. People who think we are 2 or 3 players short are deluded. This squad is miles away

Its the quality of the signings we've signed 13 players (some for development team) and 4 on loan

How many of these players would walk into Leicester or Leeds' 1st 11 ... (or improve Southampton or Ipswich) or have improved us from last season?

I'm struggling 3 have come in from Leicester or Leeds anyhow!

We got lucky that we've sold one of the 13 players for a sizeable profit? On that not how many players have we sold for an 8 figure sum prior to Rogers I don't think there's very many in this club .. Spence, Tav, Gibson, Juninho?

Realistically we need PL loans to get that quality. But people won't accept it.

I think today reinforced my opinion of Forss not being suited to playing down the middle. He's neither quick enough or strong enough. He's far and away our best finisher, but he's not the answer down the middle. Neither are Coburn or Latte Lath though and we need to find someone who is so that those 3 can work around the new man.

The root cause of the current issues is that we lost real quality in Archer and Akpom and haven’t come close to replacing either. We’ve spent too much of this season without any real firepower up front at all. Playing Crooks, Silvera, Coburn and even Lathe up front is a farce compared to what we lost. Compounding that is the lack of a decent 10 to support. It’s like we’ve just pulled those positions and expect to do ok without them.

0 shots on target today. Absolutely ridiculous.
Need to worry about defending first, as Jack Charlton always used to say "you start every game with a point"

I can see what you're saying, saw next to nothing from him second half, but he's not been given a run there when we've been playing well. To really decide on him he needs that chance for me, he's got more positioning, more experience, as much pace and as good a work ethic as McGree who seemed to be playing up there first half, but much more goal threat.

A fit Coburn could be good enough, but requires pace around him.
He offers another perspective and is hard work to play against. Teams in and around the top four of this league for years don't just have ' pretty footballers '.
I'd agree with everything else you've posted in this thread though.

I hope Josh will come good, but right now he's not the finished article. I agree he's the only typical forward we have on the books though. I'd definitely have him as back up.

It's the champo! A side like boro is never far away from challenging the top 6.

I think that as fans we are a bit behind the reality, since the FFP or whatever it's called was introduced it's more of a 3 season cycle than a season by season thing.

Let's see what we do in the close season now we have a lot of capacity to spend.
Gibson won't spend big, he'll be looking in Poundland for bargain buys to sell on

Mad how it was only little over a month ago we were all delighted with the team for holding their own against Villa, beating Chelsea, getting to a cup semi-final, doing okay in the league and staying in touching distance of the playoffs. What the f*ck's happened.
Lack of investment & ambition in January. The club basically give up on the play offs with their transfer strategy. To leave the team with no striker was pathetic.

We could have signed Giles like Hull City instead we've decided to sign three alternative full backs who are are sub standard

The summer warchest 😍

It's no different from a month ago. Not good enough to go up and with strengthening needed in key areas. Today made little difference to that. We are a very inconsistent team struggling with injuries. Understandably everybody is frustrated after that performance but I learnt nothing new from that.

It’s a cliche to say that the team looked like strangers to each other today but there’s a grain of truth in it. Rav and McNair have never played together as the central two in defence. Barlaser and O’Brien starting together for only the second time. Three players brought into the team in the transfer window. Forss up front for the first time this season in front of a three that had never played together in that formation. The net result, amongst other things, is players looking for the pass rather than playing it first time to where they expect someone to be and misplaced passes resulting.

I think a fully fit squad we have enough for a play off position but this season has been so disjointed with injuries, but also occasional selection and formation decisions.

I think this is a sensible and rational assessment.

And, as such, has absolutely no place on the board on the Saturday night after a defeat.
