Villa bid for Morgan Rogers

They have obviously seen something in him that I and many others haven't. I can't believe the silly money that's been mentioned on here for him and think he's a bang average footballer. He's only in our starting eleven due to injuries.
I guess the point is, he is a good powerful ball carrier, plays with his head up and has the ability to create opportunities. The mistakes and consistency come with game time / experience

I was talking with a leading national sports journalist a week ago just before the Villa cup game and he was saying to me that Emery does not favour the young player development route. I had been expressing my surprise that both Aaron Ramsay and Cameron Archer were immediately sold when they appeared ready for a Premier squad.
WIth that in mind it might not be the greatest move in the world for Morgan Rogers. He would be being bought by Villa rather than Emery. It could be like stepping back to Man City, stepping back to being a development player, unlikely to develop anytime soon at his nee parent club.

People keep saying he is on the fringes of the team. Who keeps him out at no.10 when everyone is fit based on current form?

I think I might be talking out of my hoop here, but does the fact we appear to have a very healthy relationship with Villa, come into the equation? We have done quite well out of the relationship so far, taking players on loan (they see us as a safe pair of hands for player development), we got Danks and now Azaz. Does that put any pressure on us in negotiations?

Players have a value. If a player is towards the end of a contract then a club may not achieve the full value. However having time left on a contract doesn't increase the value of the player (apart from maybe very special individual talents where there aren't really other options. Like Mbappe, Haaland etc.).

Having time on a contract helps a club achieve their full valuation or maybe push a little bit extra. But it doesn't make a £7mil player worth £20mil.
If we sell him I think it will be for £7-10m and I think that would be good business.
It doesn't change their value but it does change our willingness/necessity to sell. Akpom for example had a year left on his contract so we either accepted £10m in summer or lose him for nothing the following year. Rogers is ours for another 3.5 years so we don't have that situation. If we believe he is worth £7m then we would have to replace him with a £7m player to or we are weaker and if there aren't any available we wouldn't sell but if we were offered £15m we'd be more confident we can find a player that fits by spending that much ourselves, or more likely, buying 3 players that could become better.

Player valuations aren't like prices in a shop where if you meet it you get to take it home. People pay above market value for things all the time and we are in a strong position where we don't need to accept his market value because it won't do us any better than keeping him but we would accept significantly above market value if it's offered. If Villa think he's worth £5 then they probably won't pay £15m.

I'm not selling my house. If someone comes and knocks on my door and offers me market rate I wouldn't be interested. If they offered me double or triple what it's worth then I'd get packing.

Absolutely. His ability has shone through for me on many occasions. His 4 goals in the Carabao Cup, his 8 assists in league and cup and his performance at Sunderland when he came on. He's been our MoTM on a few occasions. He is inconsistent but is capable of really good things too. I hope we can keep him.

Talking out of ones hoop is encouraged on here

Based on what we've seen this season it seems Matt Crooks keeps him out the team at no10 as he's played pretty much every game there this season when fit.

I would also think there's a good chance Azaz does as well but TBC

No

Good question, we`ll soon see.

Villa appear to be in trouble trying to meet FFP rules, hence their ‘false’ sale of both Archer and Aaron Ramsey with buyback clauses disguising loans in effect. Rogers is just a pawn in their shady financial dealings.

Come on man. Bang average?
Go watch rewatch the Coventry game or the Preston game or the WBA game when he was the best player on the pitch in all of those games, or his assist for Coburns goal against Huddersfield, or Jones goal against the Mackems. The lads got absolute quality, which is why he's wanted by a team with one the most successful transfer record of the last few years.
He seems to be Carrick's first choice now as he's played almost every game he's been available for since late November, including the last one when nearly all the injured players were back.

Now we buy cheap and sell big when players valuations are met. If we sold Rogers for 8mil we wouldn't spend 8mil and try and replace him like for like would we.

We'd buy another 3 or 4 0-2mil youngsters and hope we find another 2 or 3 Morgans. We might have already signed our first one in Azaz 👀

Everyone seems to have accepted that the model is to buy cheap and sell at a profit. But teams are only going to pay what a player is worth. There's no point playing hard ball and demanding 15mil if he's not worth it and no one is willing to pay it. If he doesn't come on over the next 12-18 months then we may well have missed the boat.

I think 7-10mil is real valuation of Rogers. 10mil+ would be a huge fee for him. That's my opinion.

It does work the other way though, a short contract length drives a price down.

What would be stunning about that?

We wouldn't sell for £5m in January.

We signed him for £1m, there's a 20% sell-on clause, we'd need to use a good portion of the fee to bring in another player, it'll take substantially more than £5m to tempt the club.
Ooo look at me trying to be controversial
I'm far from being controversial, I just don't think he's an established Championship footballer never mind a Premier League player. He is nowhere near the levels of Archer or Ramsey and Villa let both of them players go.

5 million is a lot for a player who wouldn't be in our starting elven if it wasn't for injuries.
