Villa bid for Morgan Rogers

Got full confidence in our higher ups these days to get the best possible deal for our club regardless of wether or not the player is pushing for a move.
I think the days of taking low offers are gone now, especially when there's 3 and a half years left on his deal.

Didn't think we'd be having the thread about Rogers so soon.
I really like him, genuinely think he's gonna be an awesome Premier league player.
Be interesting to see how much of a part if any he plays tomorrow

We need to remember we are in a position of power too - 3 years left on his contract, relatively small fee paid. So we should absolutely be playing hard ball, north end of 8-10 million for me.

The only scupper could be in Rogers himself kicks up a fuss and tells the club he wants cuddles off Dion Dublin.

Sorry to be picky but if Villa want one of our players and they want to go we have no power. They are going.
All we can do is negotiate a good deal

Any player in the championship with a chance to go to Villa have two options.

To hold out for any reason is fraught with risk - injury, or Villa move on.

The vast majority would bite their hands off

Nonsense. Championship clubs hold out all the time. Jack Clarke (for example) would be long gone if they didn't.

Players have a lot of power, but to suggest championship clubs have none is ridiculous.

And you can't negotiate effectively if "no" isn't an option.

My attempt at humour may have meant my post wasnt clear! 😂

By Rogers wanting "Dion Dublin cuddles" I meant if Rogers wants to go and downs tools etc, then it potentially forces our hand a bit.

Bit of a Charlie Amer attitude Finny, Id like to us build something. Hes a long way to go yet. Stuck in Villa stiffs wont do him any good.

Would you be asking for any players on loan as part of the deal?....

Villa Squad

Remember, there is no such thing as a silly answer....
What’s happened to Buendia? Is he injured? Haven’t seen him play for Villa for a while. Putting 2 and 2 together with the Scott link.

Edit: just seen he’s been out all season injured.

Agreed. Ultimately, a failure to come to a deal could leave us with an unsettled player.

Ouch - the mere mention of Amer sent a shiver down my spine 😣
I agree with you, would love him to stay and let Carrick build a team.

Thats exactly what triggered my post - I googled Buendia and seen that he has been injured 😂

Very strange one.

1, for the fact it was not mentioned when we signed Azaz, no media outlets mentioned that they had any interest in MR.
2, for the fact MR isn't even a guaranteed starter for us.

He's hardly blown us all away and been vital to everything good we do and you'd think for a club doing so well this season if they wanted anyone it would be Hackney or VDB? I think I've seen glimpses of talent and think he could turn into a good footballer, top 4-6 level in the PL I'm not convinced yet but he's only been here 5 minutes but surely Villa wouldn't have him near their first team yet so a loan til the end of the season would be on the cards and what does that do for our/their FFP??

and when you go on #avfc twitter, alot of their fans are buzzing and saying he'll be playing quite often, where they see him playing etc and how Watkins and others came from the Championship and have done alright.

Apparently we signed him for between 1m-1.5m, so if they came in with a silly bid of over 5m i think he'll be gone. The lad will clearly want away now if there is any truth in it aswell, so as a club with a serious eye on our finances i think we'd be daft not to sell.

Agree - it was one that caught me off guard.

Overall I dont want to sell, as I think he is finally settling into some good form, but I also dont think he is as important to the team as say Akpom or Archer were last year. So if the money is right for the club I can see this happening.

Ideally I would keep him though.

Some of their fans saying straight swap for Callum Chambers ?

Pointless for me. I would rather the cash if we have to sell.

Decent enough player to be fair but is that an area we need to focus on this window? I dont think so, Rav, Fry, Clarke are all gelling well enough, ... may depend on the Paddy situation.

This bid is a huge compliment to our recruitment team.

Not only have we had him for only 6 months, but we signed him for about £1m and already he's getting linked with a team occupying a CL spot and fighting for the PL title.

Huge pat on the back at the recruitment team.

Whatever happens, if we keep him or sell him, the strategy and the plan is clearly working and our process is working.

Fair play. It looks like behind the scenes we are doing very very well.

Take a bow 'Boro

Isn't this how 'the model' is supposed to work?

Buy cheap, develop (or in this case not) then sell for a profit.

It is but you don't sell at the first sign of interest. Villa's offer was rumoured to be around £4m, which would explain Boro "rejecting it out of hand".

Ideally you develop them and sell them after 2 seasons, when you've had time to develop them, get the benefit from them and they still have 2 years on their contract.

Selling him after 6 months makes zero sense, if we sold at £8m for example he could be worth £15-£20m next season and the same people who are saying "it's the model" will be calling the club all the names under the sun for selling him too cheaply.
