Reminds me a match report in one of the quality press when Charlton was manager , along the lines of.. "With the white band on their shirt, and a back line of Craggs, Boam, Maddren, and Spraggon, they not only look like, but sound like a rugby league team, and are as frightening..."

I think most people who grew up with the band are the ones that like it most. I grew up with the heritage hampers bib so I've always had a fondness for that. That's got history too.

Ive gone through all the aberrations; that bib being one of the very worst.

One thing I never knew is that we have had far more "red with white shoulder" kits than we have had "red with white band"

I always thought the band was traditional. I guess we had it in the seventies when were good and it's stuck in our collective memory.

Since 1936 there have been 8 seasons where there has been some degree of white shoulders.
Those who associate with that kit are dead.

Their home kit is a white shirt with a red band. Saying otherwise is like saying Newcastle and Sunderland play in the same kit as they both wear stripes but different colours
