Keir Starmer

Just headlines written by newspaper editors. Copy and paste the interview as you've been politely requested to do by @Chris_Boro.

Well in that case he'll seek to effect meaningful change and act in the service of British people and I can't wait.

Which meaningful changes are you looking forward to most?

Streeting "holding the door wide open" to NHS privatisation? Cooper accelerating deportations?

Thatcherism/neoliberalism is the antithesis of socialism.

Thatcher is the personification of neoliberalism.

For Starmer to casually drop that name to garner a few tory votes is a total insult to 1000s of Labour members.

This is after his huge mistake of suspending Labour MPs who called for a cease fire in Gaza.

No, he's trying to convince Labour supporters who abandoned Corbyn and lent their votes to Johnson in 2019. Don't be so gullible.

Do you really think that crowd were going to vote Tory again this time round, after all that’s gone on?!
And you think Starmer is going to appeal to that particular crowd of ‘Labour supporters’ by talking about Thatcher?!
Hmmmmm.

I think there will be loads voting Green 💚
The extreme weather events are off the scale, sea levels are rising rapidly and petty squabbles about Thatcher Starmer and the like are irrelevant TBH 👍

Hmmmmm.

It was literally 2 lines in a wider point, in a longer interview. He never "talked" about anyone in it, rather used them to highlight his point.

One sentence pulled out, twisted and spun. Our media, going into bat for the Tories and people are still falling for it.

Post the actual interview. You like a good copy paste, surely that's not too difficult for you?

Bit rude. Roofies a good poster. Are you trying to bully him and drive him off the board?

If this interviews so good post up the text yourself. Lets see it.

I've already linked it. Read it for yourself.

Unless I've missed it earlier in the thread, you've linked the article Starmer wrote for the Telegraph. The one I've already quoted for you when you were demanding to know where he'd said "meaningful change". Chris is on about a different interview after the article was published.

Here, this is the broadcasting house interview after the telegraph article. I draw the line at transcribing it for you so if there's something Starmers said thats fantastic in there, one of you supporters will have to listen and share it.

I know he is, however he's only posting attacks without any form of balance. I've challenged his sources previously in the thread but got ignored.

I respect he is passionate about his views, sometimes that passion removes context, if he's going to post loads if links, why not the original article?

Whether the interview was good or bad is irrelevant, it's the fact the quote about Thatcher has been taken fully out of context and spun by the very media he's linked. The same media that's actively trashed Labour's previous leaders by doing the same.

Here is the original article for arguments sake...

The quote about Thatcher isn't from an interview. It's from an article Starmer wrote for the telegraph. Its not some off the cuff moment where hes drawn on an example, it's a thing he'll have had party staff draft for him to promote a specific perception of him.

So its not that Roofies removing any context, you've just got the context wrong.

As for Starmer, he’s invoked Thatcher because he’s trying to get Tories to vote for him. It’s as simple as that. He will have known how it would play out not just on the left but right across the media and, like a lot of things he’s done that have got people’s backs up, has done it anyway. It’s up to him. He’s going win a landslide next spring with or without my vote so he can crack on. To my mind it’s crass, insensitive and borderline offensive that he invoked her in a positive light but what can you do.

You just have to hope and pray that all of those people who seem convinced he’ll lurch to the left once he takes up office are proven right.
