Keir Starmer

This is where you are wrong. Neoliberalism had been extremely successful. Not for the majority of society of course but for the people that matter, the rich.
i think you're both right. The ideology of Neoliberalism suggests that it will "create an unprecedented era of social well-being in the world's population." and we know that that's not happening, so in that way it can be called a failure.
However, if you believe that it is just a device for making the rich richer then you can say it very successful indeed.

I know
Remember the ‘Corbyn anti semite‘ spin
Quite rightly people on here called it out for what it was.

Some of those people really happy to take the BBC et al spin v Starmer
So is the reality is that he praised her in one interview but not in another?

Reality, much like the art of good conversation is largely defunct on here these days

Blind bigotry on either side isn’t a good look and certainly doesn’t float my boat

(not aimed at you btw - just responding to your post)

Everybody makes mistakes, often only acknowledged with the benefit of hindsight. In 2011 Jeremy Corbyn was one of only 26 MPs who supported an Early Day Motion mourning the death of Jimmy Savile, remembering "the smiles brought to the faces of children who appeared on Jim'll Fix It".

To be fair though, none of those signatories will have been aware of what Saville was guilty of in 2011 because the allegations surfaced after he died. Today we are fully aware of Thatcher's legacy.

The current Labour leadership and the people on here that are telling us not to believe this spin were the same people that pushed the Corbyn antisemite line.

The left rightly called it out and were given dogs abuse.

I learned my lesson and now know that it's proper and correct to believe what gets printed about politicians.

I don't possess sufficient eloquence to fully describe my hate (strong word I know) for Margaret Thatcher and all that she stood for. I've tried earlier on. Starmer's made a big mistake even mentioning her in any capacity and that is the mistake he will recognise in hindsight.

But for balance these are the words he used: "Margaret Thatcher sought to drag Britain out of its stupor by setting loose our natural entrepreneurialism". I mean, that's it. I don't even agree with that by the way because I was 12 in 1979 and I remember how **** is was then and how **** things remained all the way through her leadership and beyond.

The 2019 GE left Labour with 163 fewer seats than the Conservatives.
The reason why so many people are critical of Starmer is because he appears to be working harder to win back those traditional Labour voters who lent their votes to Johnson in 2019, rather than work with those on the left of the party and present a more inclusive offering. Starmer would argue that he has no hope of achieving the latter.

I didn't realise how accepted in the South it is that Thatcher was good until I went to uni.

I was having a regular anti-thatcher rant with a comp educated lad from Kent - he came out with "at least she defeated the unions and was there for the falklands - just imagine if Labour had stayed in charge".

I couldn't get my jaw off the floor.

Keir is playing for votes pure and simple - my hope is that of he gets into power he is more left wing than he is letting on... its a better bet than the tory party finding their morals or another party having significant influence. That is as simple as it all is.

The world and his dog knew by then. I knew in 1970

Coal mines were never the future for this country, there was hell on amongst the Labour party when a new mine was recently commissioned in the North West.....

Make your minds up guys, Mrs Thatcher was right about coal mines....

The problem was entire communities depended on mining, and when the mines were closed the workers and families were just left to their own devices to find a new career, some of the miners would of done the same job their whole life, fathers, sons, brothers, entire families would be miners. There should of been some structured programme to allow those people to train in a new vocation.

About Saville?
Yes. I was part-time DJing and he had a reputation as a wrongun in Leeds/West Yorkshire clubland. 75 onwards I taught with a guy who was brought up at Rampton Hospital, where his dad was a senior warder. Staff were under strict instructions never to leave him alone with patients on his visits.

She really liked that Jimmy Savile bloke, Nobby. And her best mate Pinochet seemed like a lovely chap. Did you have posters of all three of them on your bedroom walls back then, or was it just Thatcher posters?

Thatchers walk in the Wilderness was the catalyst for the redevelopment of Stockton Riverside and the Tees barrage, there is lots of wildlife and wading birds down there as a result, it's not all bad 👍
