Halloween callers

We had plenty of kids round, next to nothing left of the sweets. Grandkid went round the doors and came back fully loaded. Dentists will be busy.

Did you have a pumpkin out? My sister was telling me that there's an 'unwritten' rule now that you only knock on doors with pumpkins/decorations, thus showing you want to play the game.

(Good if true, as I'm not interested, and realised I had no 'treats' in last night, but didn't fancy getting my front door egged)!!

Edit: Keeping all the lights off apart from the room I was in at the back of the house probably helped too! Scrooge! 🎃💩

Granddaughter knocked on all of the doors, lights off as well, never mind pumpkins about.

The pumpkin rule is what we followed last night. Plenty to get stuck into.

Not too many callers at our house, but we live at the end of a cul de sac so a bit off the beaten track. Plus two kids “reverse unoed” and gave us sweets. Nice of them.

We also go by the pumpkins / decorations rule. Still loads to go at and our little un has enough sweets to last until next Halloween.

We left a bowl of sweets on the doorstep for trick or treaters to help themselves whilst we were out.

We had plenty, but we had a few decorations/ pumpkins out to give the green light.

We also avoided houses that didnt look like they were invested in Halloween - as to not disturb in case they dont want beggers at the door! 😂

Got about 20 of them, for the first time ever. Many more than expected and had to get my wife to bring more sweets in, on her way home from work. We did have 7 or 8 pumpkins on the front step this year, which we've not done before and so that "rule" makes a lot of sense.

My two year old loved answering the door to all the kids dressed up, and will probably love going out herself next year when she's a little older.

None here in N Yorkshire. I don’t think we did Halloween when I was a lad. Possibly a USA custom.
I'm a youngster in my late 60's but we had Halloween in Teesside when I was a kid. No dressing up and coins were given out at the doors of those who could afford to. No pumpkins either, it was a carved out snagger with a candle in.

I did sound a bit grumpy then didn’t I!

I’m still not letting my younguns knock on doors begging though

I know what you mean - but if they are obviously up for it then its ok, full steam ahead

Sounds like a different type of topic 👀

We did the same. And the bowl went missing!

I found it this morning on the wall of the house on the corner of the street still with some sweets in it! I reckon some little kid has picked it up and when told to go put it back has just dumped it round the corner! I was more annoyed about the bowl going missing than the sweets as we've still got a few left.
