Neil Warnock wants a yes or no answer from the players he’s approached to join him at Boro by early next week.
The new full-time Middlesbrough manager has revealed that the club have already made offers to several targets and wants an answer either way sooner rather than later.
Warnock has also indicated that he thinks Boro could potentially turn a profit from their transfer business this summer but admits it’s crucial he gets the “four or five” lads he needs if the club are to challenge for promotion next season.
“The players I’m after, there are bigger clubs or clubs with more money at the moment so it isn’t easy but we’ve got to somehow come up with these players.
“There will be players leaving and players big clubs will be looking at as well, some of our young lads, so we’ve got to see what develops in a short space of time and try and get the right players in that we need.
“I can’t see me spending fortunes,” he admitted. “I think we’ll generate income probably more than what I spend.
“I think next week, from Monday onwards, I’m going to start putting pressure on people and if they don’t want to come I’ll leave alone.
“But we do need quite a few, we need down the spine of the team one or two leaders and talkers.
“Otherwise we are just going to stay put in that mid-table area.”
His assertion that he will generate more money than he actually spends, suggests that 4 players in particular are likely to have a price (?):
Assombalonga
Fletcher
Johnson
Friend
Perhaps the first three (?) - certainly the first two - because they are on unsustainable salaries and have the highest move-on value? It would make sense.
I think we are in exciting times regards the clubs future
