The big difference though is the article 5 nato clause that’s all that is keeping putin contained.

No such caveat exists in the middles east.

That’s true. I doubt it escalates despite various Middle Eastern countries hating each other. Egyptian policy is no longer to oppose Israel regardless. Syria in no position to do anything and the Saudi’s will not get involved.

US support will stop Iran getting directly involved as well. Covertly Iran might but that is no different to any other conflict. The CIA has done exactly the same for decades.

That’s an interesting idea that never crossed my mind before and it sent me on a rabbit hole.
It looks we declared war with Germany (Neville Chamberlains famous Radio broadcast) on 3 September 1939 but it was President Truman who signed Approved and approved a declaration 11 September 1945 which used the Title of World War 2.
Lots of posters on this board have some great thoughts and Ideas that make you realise there are lots of things you didn’t know that you didn’t know. 👍

Yeah, 2001 was a long time ago

Awful lot has happened in China since then. 2023 China would commit economic suicide by invading Taiwan. They are trying to gain favour with the West, so by doing this .....🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I see it like Argentina and the Falklands - sure they want it, yes they feel it is theirs, yes it's tantalisingly close, but the repercussions of actually invading? Not worth it.

Honestly see the Middle East as the flashpoint, and it's who Hamas can drag into their fight with Israel. Do Iran think they are hard enough for a straightener with the West (especially the USA who are itching to have a pop at them).🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Unfortunately I think it's a case of "we will see".

Escalation will means many thousands more innocent civilians will die......what a fooking huge bag of bollox. In the name of what? FFS.
 
I'm due to fly out to Egypt for a holiday in a couple weeks. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a touch nervous about it.

It's our first holiday abroad in 4 years and my youngest's first holiday abroad.... Really need to think about what we are going to do.
My wife has no idea about current world affairs so would be totally oblivious to the danger unless I tell her.
 
Never been but Egypt is a big big country isn't it?, so would maybe depends where.

That said I'd be thinking twice before going.
 
The current danger seems to be whether Iran gets involved. If Israel decides that they are responsible, partially or otherwise for funding Hamas then who know what would happen.

Overall though I think there are too many vested interests in Russia, America, China, India etc. for WW3 to take place. It just doesn't benefit anyone so I think they will always pull back from the brink.

We are going to Hurghada which is a good trek away from the Israeli border. I think if I was going to Sharm I would definitely cancel.

The difference in this case is that a lot of people estimate that China would have to take Taiwan in the next few years. After that point - they think Taiwan would be so well defended that it would be too costly to take and potentially lost forever. The window for action on the Chinese front is narrowing. All depends on the mind of Xi and his party. How important it is to him and his ego to leave 'a legacy'.

Argentina are too weak to take it. Both militarily and financially.

I only say Eston Hills as I have a recurring nightmare that a nuke has dropped or is going to be, and I am with my best friend and his family but always seem to have left something behind, and crying to go back and get whatever it is ... but I have no choice and we go underground somewhere up the hills

Can't describe it but that is what the dream always is

Sometimes I am on the Nab and see one go off out over in the sea but I am alone

Problem is I have seen the film Threads far too many times, I think

It does worry me though looking at events Geopolitically, and changes to come .. looking at the USA in particular

It is not the time to have an unhinged narcissist in the White House and I really believe Trump will be back in as things stand, unless they hurry these charges against him and somehow disqualify him from being in the race

The Biden administration has been extremely unremarkable and there is no chance I see him getting a second term up against the Don

It's pathetic the Republican party has not gotten out of the grip Trump has on it

People who argue Trump is the answer .. I am sorry, I just do not get it. I am still trying to process how we have ended up here
 
Israel and Palestine have been going at it for decades, Ukraine and Russia been at it for almost 10 years. I wouldn't worry about it, something new gonna be on the news next week.
