Scotland v England

We should have stuck with him all day long.
Sorry but that is rubbish don’t you remember just how bloody awful we were.

Drawing with Nuneaton the no show v Cardiff the hapless slump to relegation.

The lowest scorers in the British isles the not coming back from a goal down for about 3 years. The not having a no 1 keeper to not upset the other.

That was a vanity play mate pure and simple
We must respectfully disagree. I think you are a little clouded on Sir Gareth (I accept people may think that of me). He remains a top class manager to me and Gibson is the emporer with no clothes in his Boro time. I know Alves was not Sir Gareths buy and history shows his comments as accurate. He is remarkably still supportive of Boro, despite his treatment, I am lucky to have met the man and have been called, thankfully…..respectful.

Yes underachieved... Best XI in world football and he got done tactically by Italy. Inexcusable.
France I will say was a closer tie that we were unlucky in.
Croatia once again underachieved getting beat by Croatia a team we should and have swatted away since but I give him credit because it was a very enjoyable tournament following the euro disaster and at the time we didn't have the worlds best XI.
It's simply fact that he's had the easiest runs in football history and hasn't beaten a single team in either cup competition that could be considered equal when it mattered and what's worse is he lost tactically.

Hold on we should have swatted Croatia away? They literally had the best international midfield in the World at the time. England had Lingard, Dele Ali and Jordan Henderson. You genuinely couldn’t have less of a clue.

My issue is simple we saw tonight a young vibrant england of line up attack minded with pace and guille. We have the players

But this is the second choice never the first. As we all know when the big games come around hendo will be back. With foden etc back on the bench.

To quote souness tonight let’s take off the hand break.

It’s a complete myth that if Henderson plays we are defensively minded. He started against North Macedonia and we won 7-0. He started most games in the last 3 tournaments when England scored more goals than we’d scored in about the previous 10 tournaments put together.

He wasn’t playing school ground football in Saudi back then though

Really? you’re argument is people on f****** REDDIT don’t rate him!? 🤣🤣🤣

oh well that settles it then, if them experts have spoken sorry Gareth time to go….

What makes you a better judge? I'm simply pointing out that this board views Southgate differently to anyone else.

No top club will have him, you know it. I know it.

He's a friendly guy who has underachieved with the best England generation in my lifetime. Can't fight the facts.

Are you claiming that italys tactic was to nullify us and take us to penalties…sure haha

The reality is we got on top of them, went up, they made tactical changes and got on top of us and equalised. Then we made changes and both sides nullified each other.

Beat XI? Behave

Sorry but I can’t agree with this.

We have a world class team with an average manager. Nice guy but far too defensive in my opinion.
No need to apologise, I know you don’t agree, hence my comment, i believe we are world class too, but thanks to Sir Gareth, not despite him. I also think if Gibson hadn’t have used him as a patsy, Boro would be top class too 🤷‍♂️

You are having a mare Alvez_49 on this one, sorry.

It’s hilarious isn’t it, the lack of objective ness by these people

I’ll confidently call it, he won’t be in the first xi, probably in the squad for experience and last 10 mins to see the game out
We’ll see.

Gareth has his favourites that will be in regardless of fitness or form ( I think we’ve seen that) Phillips rice maguire etc.

Tonight was the first start for foden since the wc quarter final 12 months ago.

You're right Croatia were a good side in 18' and had a great midfield, I think at the time people expected a comfortable victory because it wasn't one of the so called bigger nations in the semi final and the narrative that we lost to an average team has stuck.

Our squad and team in that tournament wasn't as strong as it is now but saying that I think it was better than people seem to remember. The way that 2018 team is described you'd think Southgate took a load of non-league players to the semi finals. Out of the players you mentioned Deli Ali and Jordan Henderson were playing at a really high level for their clubs at the time, when you mention their names now it sounds like a poor midfield but we still had a lot of good players in that team.

Should be have beaten Croatia? I don't know, we were two fairly evenly matched teams at the time. We certainly had a great opportunity and if we'd have gone 2 nil up (which we should have done) we would have probably got to the final. I don't think we should have swatted them away though.

We are post tournament and starting a new transition, come the euros Maguire and Henderson will not be in the starting line up

We've got better centre backs than Maguire and two of them started tonight. We've also got an improving Levi Colwill on the fringes now and obviously Stones to come back as well.
I don't think Maguire will be in the team for the Euro's and I think he's going to be under pressure to make the squad.

All managers have their favourites, but Southgate has made the big decisions before, such as retiring Rooney. But as I have explained, you can't have a no blame culture and trash players, otherwise the group culture is down the pan. Someone has to get growing opportunities and take Maguires place. Dunk did a good job of that tonight, and Guehi has done ok too. I think Levi may be the long term answer though. I think they are all better than Tomori from what I have seen, most people called for simply because he played for Milan. That means nothing in teh grand scheme of things, Clayton Blackmore played 100 games for Man Utd, TAA plays for liverpool but is a poor defender.
