To be fair to Steve Gibson he totally refutes that his injections are loans. He also insists that he absolutely maxes out what can be paid into the club to protect our FFP status.
No Rob, he has talked to you. He hasn’t refuted anything in public because nobody ever asks him or is given access to.

No, he really doesn't.
He could inject £8m in equity per season and has done that just once since 2013, that was in 2016 because of the cost of the promotion season.
In 10 years he could have injected £80m in equity from a FFP perspective. He has done £8m. Only 3 rolling years apply for each FFP calculation.

He loans the club money, he does not give it. This protects his position in more ways than one.
There appears significantly more scope to inject equity from an FFP perspective than he has.
It may well be that some of his loans have been set up as guaranteed to be converted to equity at some future time. I believe such loans can count as equity injection from a FFP perspective. It is not possible to see this from Published Accounts.
It is a moot point in any case as we are nowhere near FFP problems even without equity injection.
In the PL the clubs owners can inject up to £90m across a 3 year period and incur an acceptable £105m FFP calculation loss.

He gives the club money because its his club, he owns it. I don't want a middle eastern or Yankee billionaire owner. He has accountant advisors of his own. The bloke done things despite not being spoilt with advantage.
I hope we can one day go back up as a club and compete with the top boys. I don't really give two figs for the out of towners think nor about blokes who are obviously using two names tbh. Like - Like same name same bloke. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, I disagree with yours.

I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the post of mine you responded to wasn’t an opinion.

I have seen some of the figures but am not an acountant. I also realise that they have to be confidential because of FFP and Football League etc.

I'm not having a go at you, I just think he gets the easiest ride ever and there is never scrutiny.
I know all too well what he is like, what his behaviours can be. I also get that you are in a delicate position. He plays on that.
But Rob you will forgive me using facts to challenge him (not you).
Of course he denies it to you, but the debate never sees the light of day, it is kept exactly where he wants it.

Spot on.

Like others have said, better the devil you know. Gibson isn’t rich in footballing terms but he is giving us a steady if not spectacular club.

We punched above our weight last season because Chuba had a season that no one in their right mind would have predicted. We signed some loan players who happened to be very good at our level. But ultimately we fell at the second from last hurdle. Is that Gibsons fault? I’d say more the players (who were more than capable) were to blame. This season could very well be the same. Gibson cannot be blamed for last season.

Would I love for a Middlesbrough born billionaire to come in and take the club over? Absolutely! But that’s not going to happen. We are better off running with what we have and try and emulate the Bournemouth and Brighton models that didn’t become successful in a season and a half.

What’s stable about being in debt and losing money every season? I don’t understand the narrative that being a average championship side not being on the verge of liquidation is steady.

I can’t believe everyone moaning at Gibson, what makes our fans think we are any different to most other championship sides. All hoping for promotion one day while escaping relegation.

Most clubs don’t charge supporters, who live in one of the most deprived areas of the country, premier league prices.
Most clubs haven’t pulled in around £30m in player sales over the last 14 months.

The trouble is- these days being a millionaire is not enough. A club owner needs to be a billionaire.
But I would still rather have a millionaire who cares about our club than a billionaire who cares about laundering his dosh then sells us on to who knows what when the money laundering laws are enforced.

I'd rather have someone who knows what the hell he is doing.
I want them to care about the club, of course.
I want them to be seriously rich.
But most of all I want them to be competent, to make good decisions, great appointments.
Gibson stopped being that person an awful long time ago.

No one will buy the Boro so this is kind of pointless.

Gibson has loaned the club huge amounts and would have to be paid back in any sale, or the debt to Gibson taken on. It’s just not going to happen.

the eufa cup final is up punching above our weight .
Finishing 7th in the premier league is punching above our weight

The last 16 years have had us actually underachieving to what the club has historically done

I don’t care if the owner is from the area . I want someone who can run the club competently and competing regularly for promotion and working to establishing us as a regular premier league side . That is our level , it what it has historically been and should be now .

Gibson has not ran the club competently. We are underachieving and have been for some time . What Gibson did nearly 40 years ago saved the club but the world and country is a very different place now . He shouldn’t be staying purely because of things he did a long time ago

If Gibson cares then he needs to sort the club finances out (it’s his fault if they’re ****) and use that to put the club on the market in a better financial position .

If he has had to loan the club loads that’s from his own financial mismanagement, so again that is his fault

There are smaller clubs than ours that have been bought , so I’m not buying the idea we’re not sellable
