A little I guess in the short term, but Lucy is such a common name that kids will still get named after Aunt Lucy or Grandma Lucy though probably not for a year or two.
Kids still get Harold or Peter.
According to a quick google four females in the top twenty British Serial Killers Mary Ann Cotton, Amelia Dyer, Rose West and Myra Hindley. Myra was never a common name so it is unlikely that anyone would name their child because of the connection. Whereas Rose, Amelia and Mary are so common that the name is not solely linked to the deeds of a murderer.Thats true but male killers aren’t really rare though where as women are look at the name Rose etc. so stigma tends to stick esp child killers.
I see loads of posts online saying Myra was common but no stats. Never met a Myra personally so was it ever that common? If it was you'd have loads of them about in middle age, so sudoect it was already dropping off like stuff such as Dorothy, Mavis etcAccording to a quick google four females in the top twenty British Serial Killers Mary Ann Cotton, Amelia Dyer, Rose West and Myra Hindley. I always say to my future daughter in law that when our Lucy or Lucifer is born and she bites like hell on the two names.A quick google search says Lucy as a first name peaked in 2003/04 when it was the 7th most popular girls name, last year it was ranked 69th, so is on the wain anyway. 68,697 girls have been named Lucy since 1996 in England & Wales.
The boys name Lucifer peaked in 2020 when it was ranked 1548th most popular boys name. Last year it held the self same position in ranking. Interestingly, 39 boys have been named Lucifer in England and Wales since 2016, the devil is in the detail.
