Latte Lath.

And - as you have selectively chosen to ignore - pre season games. Watch the highlights. Have a look at the chances he misses. The fella is not a natural finisher. At all. He even admits it. He's an emergency CF who is not comfortable in that position.

Hope he proves me wrong and hits double figures 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
Blackpool fans said he was a real talent but lacked composure in front of a goal (and to an extent in general) - 22 games, 1 goal, 2 assists mostly playing as an emergency centre forward. Bournemouth he wasn't good enough to get into the team. Lincoln, 6 goals and 4 assists from 28 games at left wing. Nothing about his track record, including our pre-season games gives any indication that he is capable of becoming a prolific goal scorer as a centre forward.

It might click for him one day. Doesn't really seem likely though. I do think he might be the kind of player who could hit double figures from the wing but I don't think he copes well with the pressure of being expected to be a main goal scorer for the team. He also needs space to run with the ball, which you don't get if you're up front as a centre forward.

He played 8 games as a lone striker.. remember though, that was because a poor Blackpool side was having an injury crisis AND by moving him to CF one of their best creators was now playing Caf, so he was unlikely to get any good supply or support to work off. Seems harsh to write him off for life as a CF based on that 8 game spell.

Bournemouth he wasn't good enough to get into the team.
He was 18-19 year old in a Bournemouth team that got promoted with forward players that 18 months earlier were playing in the premier league. Not surprising really

For a 17-18 year old to score 1 in 4 from the wing is pretty good.

Context is important. He’s still just a kid and playing him on the hardest position in the team will take time to adjust and learn. I think it might end up being his role eventually, but we shouldn’t be asking him to learn on the job

I think that's fair enough. I think he's already at a decent Championship level playing left wing and possibly as a #10. He's nowhere near ready to play centre forward in the Championship and I think it was unfair on him to have made him play there against two teams knowing for being particularly defensively strong, especially when we had a perfectly good centre-forward playing right wing.

I suspect that his best position is on the left of a front 3 in a 4-3-3. Then again, if you look at our current squad, it seems best suited for 4-3-3 or maybe 3-5-2.

I watched a few of the Latte Lath compilations and I think he is genuinely two footed. He seems very natural off both sides. I watch a clip and think that he is working it onto his right foot and the very next clip he works it onto his left. Probably right footed but very strong with his left too.

the Italian comments on Twitter seem to suggest we have overpaid. it does seem a lot in comparison to Akpom.

The beauty of football is everyone has an opinion on a player, a transfer the reported fee without really knowing anything.

If he signs lets give him a chance and hope he becomes a 15 goal a season striker which is very possible in our team if they start to perform like last year.

Lath looks aggressive and will put himself about which will create space for others too, I hope he will be very good for the championship player.

For what we paid for Akpom?

Maybe, but fees have inflated significantly in the last 3 years.

Not to mention inflation in general.

€1 in 2020 is €1.18 today.
£1 in 2020 is £1.26 today.

It's also signing from a top 6 Italian side compared to a Greek side.

5m euro sounds a lot but it won't be in our top 35 all time signings, and if you add general and football inflation not in our top 50.

He won't need to go much to be better value than :
- Gazza, Digard, Fisher, Guediora, Ricketts ~5m euros
- Payero ~6m
- Bamford (2nd time), Gestede, Fletcher ~7m
- O'Neil, Saville, Flint ~8m
- Karembeu, Mido ~9m
- Braithwaite ~11m
- Rhodes ~12m
- Alves, Britt ~17m

My word, we have wasted some money over the years, 134m euros on that lot!

Still, the fee doesn't worry me.

Based just on his career stats and age, looks to me that we are paying a top heavy fee. That's if it is the reported £4m, we'll never know cos Boro don't want to disclose trandferr fees. Never played a competitive game for Atlanta, 8 loans, only 1 to a top level league, not sure the strength of the swiss league, but probably slightly lower level than the championship at best. 142 appearances = 28 goals, half them coming in his last loan spell. Could be were catching on the up, or he just had an exceptional season, time will tell. Wouldn't judge anything on youtube clips, it's all about level.

Depressing how much we paid for some of those

I've had a look at Atalanta fan pages on Instagram, they seem to be disappointed he's leaving, they're saying he deserved a shot in their first team.
