We need 5 in my opinion

Strange how fans complain about playing McNair in RB.... but then want to sign another CB to play RB... 🤷‍♂️

I think this window we are possibly only looking for 1-2 more after Engel and Latte Lath. Personally, I think we have the right squad for 4/3/3. Players in brackets may be leaving or unavailable. Main and back-up with a third choice where obvious

4-2-3-1
GK: Dieng / Glover / Jones
RB: Smith / (Dijksteel) / Agyemang
LB: Engel / (Coulson) /
CBR: Fry / RVDB / (McNair)
CBL: Lenihan / (Clarke) / (McNair)
CMR: Howson / (Payero?) /
CML: Hackney / Barlaser /
AMR: Forss / Jones /
AMC: Rogers / (Crooks) / Gilbert
AML: McGree / Silvera /
CF: Latte Lath / (Coburn) / Nkrumah?

4-3-3 (1 defensive midfielder two attacking #8 midfielders)
GK: Dieng / Glover / Jones
RB: Smith / (Dijksteel) / Agyemang
LB: Engel / (Coulson) /
CBR: Fry / RVDB /
CBL: Lenihan / (Clarke) / (McNair)
AMR: Hackney / (Crooks) /
DMC: Howson / Barlaser
AML: McGree / (Payero) /
RW: Rogers / Jones /
CF: Latte Lath / Forss / (Coburn)
LW: Silvera / Gilbert

I reckon this puts most of our best players in most of their best places. We don't have a specialist #10 so unless we buy one, we should set up without it. Both Rogers and Gilbert have mostly played on the wing. A front three of Rogers, Latte Lath and Silvera, if they develop the way it looks like, is going to terrorise defensive with speed and ability to interchange. Hackney struggles with the defensive side of his game so give him licence to bomb on, same with McGree, while Howson or Barlaser minds the shop.

Do we know when Djiksteel and/or Smith are due back? If it's after the window I'd expect a RB on loan.

I personally think Coulson will stay as back up LB, behind Engels.

CM depends on outgoings, although personally I'd want at least one "upgrade" in there.

Across the front four positions I think we might be done when Lath arrives (although I agree with poster above about specialist #10 but I'll be amazed if we play anything other than 4-2-3-1 this season).

Coulson is not good enough if engels gets a bad injury we would be screwed.

Based on the people we have been linked with, ideally our remaining transfer business would be:

LB: Engels 2m
CB/RB: Tuanzebe Free
CDM/B2B: Jashiri 5m
LW/10: Willock 2m
CF: Latte Lath 4m
CF: Archer 14m
TOTAL=27m

Sell:
Crooks 1m
McNair: 3m
Akpom 12m
Barlaser 2m
Jones 3m
TOTAL=21m

Jones 3m really? we wouldn't get half that amount

Surprised gilbert hasn't had a chance yet to be honest. He certainly looks more of a 9 than Rodgers. Hopefully Rodgers turns in to more of a 10 when we make signings as from what I've seen he's not a 9
He had a hand injury - is fit now and am sure will get involved soon.

He is an exciting player - opposition sides fear him. Like all wingers he is not going to be 100% consistent - but he can open up defences. He took Huddersfield apart last week and can do it again on Saturday.
He did well enough at Huddersfield yes, but he isn't quality. He has quality moments.
