Akpom - Sheff U

Aye......but if Millwall sneak a win, or we don't put in a performance like 1970 Brazil 💥💥BOOM💥💥

Or even if we do play like 1970's Brazil but the pies are a bit cold, or Carrick wears the wrong sweater or the new lick of paint in the concourse isn't the right colour red or...........

According to a mate of mine whose a Sheff Utd supporter they, and I quote “Haven’t got a pot to pee in “ Hope Gibson makes sure their cheque doesn’t bounce if a deal does happen

Strikes me as Sheffield Utd testing the water. I have no doubt that Heckingbottom would love to have him - as well as Ramsey and Archer. Akpom absolutely dominated them when we played and he's the classic type of purchase for a promoted club. Potentially cheap, would probably move for lower end Premier wages and if you're relegated you could afford to keep him and use him to get promoted again.

Wouldn't mind betting that Heckingbottom's priority list now that N'Diaye has gone is buy Akpom as a replacement, get Ramsey and McAtee on loan.

Whether Sheffield Utd will sanction any kind of fee for Akpom who has had one stellar season, is 28 and is currently injured is a whole other issue.

I am reserving my opinion because I feel this is nonsense...
I hope its nonsense.
I want it to be nonsense.
8million for the champos top scorer would be pretty embarrassing and would make me feel we have had our pants pulled down and bottom slapped by the blades.
Can't stand the blades.
Hes worth wayyyyyyyyy more to us to satu and go for the prem...
If true I just don't get football anymore.

Maupay - signed for £1.6m, sold for £20m, Ollie Watkins was already at the club and they signed Mbeumo as a replacement forward before he was sold, they also had Benrahma on the other side.

Andre Grey - signed for less than £1m , sold for £9m with a sell-on clause, replaced by Vibe and Hofmann before he was sold.

Neither of those are like selling Akpom for £8m, when he signed for £3m, with no replacement in place.
Grey = akpom
Maupay = our new number 9
Watkins = rogers
Mbeumo = Silvera?
Benrahma = Gilbert?

Not that the specifics really matter, the point I made was it took Brentford years of trading and selling their best player to get where they are. We will sell our best player several times over the next 4-6 years to get the club on a stronger footing. Pointless getting too hot under the collar about that, because players come and go regularly, it’s the nature of the game. But it hasn’t hurt Brighton or Brentford because they do it on their terms at profit

Jeeeezzzz.

Getting narky as f*ck on here at the minute.

😳😳
Yep, underpants being shat everywhere, it’s the same every season, yet this seems worse despite the excellent football under Carrick.

What will be will be, why live life looking through such negative eyes?

Continue waiting for it to turn to sh*t if it makes you feel better mate. The reality is 17th to 10th to 7th to 4th in four years, without parachute payments, with a bunch of hungry young players in place and a head coach who has everyone eating out of the palm of his hand. Some of the football we play under him is the best I’ve ever seen a Boro team play. Call me whatever you like but I’m going to enjoy it.
Enjoying it, that's exactly what it's all about. Being entertained, it's why people started watching football.

Others have moved away from this due to the amount of money being prised out of them, they now think they're investors and profit (promotion) is the be all and end all. Well only 3 clubs can achieve it, and no doubt one day it will happen, but if you feel the failure to get promoted at a club like the Boro is spoiling your enjoyment you're in the wrong game, or at the wrong club.

Because irrespective of position he still has not scored many goals in previous seasons - simply moving his position may not prove to be a magic unlock to turn him into a 20 goal a season man, or it may - who knows?

Can you not understand that there are plenty of one season wonders, and understand the point I'm making, and that Gestede is an example of a player who played multiple seasons in the same position but didn't have the same success across those seasons - Akpom may or may not be the same.
Ok. I am going to bow out of this one. It seems as though your rationale is that comparing Akpom to Gestede is the foundation of your argument which I don’t understand. I am not sure which performance you watched last year that makes you want to compare them but we all see the game differently I suppose.

There are also shitloads of clubs selling their best player every year and not being able to replace him.

OK, let's just agree that Akpom will smash another 30 goals a season because he's playing in a slightly different area of the pitch - guaranteed, get your house on it etc. After all there's never been an example of a player having only 1 outstanding season in their entire career previously.

Theres really no need for such a sarcy reply. I thought we were having a discussion but if you are not mature enough for that then I am fine with it

Everything we do is a gamble. It's about picking the right gamble. We have a player who scored the most goals for us since the 1950s. Paying that player an extra 2 to 3 million a year is a far smaller gamble than buying a player for that amount of money.

Let's put it this way. Would you rather the club bought a payero a season for the next three years than give akpom a large contract?

You're deliberately ignoring the point I'm trying to make around one season wonders (using Gestede as an extreme example) hence the reply.
