The Ashes - TEST 2

I could see Jimmy being left out and Moeen Ali coming in but then again I feel the Headingley pitch will be different to the first two and they will be more swing for the seam bowlers.

I'm glad I'm not making that decision.
Ali's bowling average is just as bad as Andersons, no way would Anderson go out and Ali come in for headingly. Where's the guarantee Ali can bowl the number of overs without doing his spinning finger in too?

Stick with Root, and give him more overs, but some of the batsmen need to do better, we're relying on three at the minute.

It's not like Ali has got any runs either, Anderson's batting average isn't far behind for the series.

Ali's played half a test.

Wood will come in if he’s fit enough.

You’ve really got tunnel vision in the short stuff haven’t ya
For this last test yeah.

Where does Ali bowl on here

Root didn't bowl one over second innings, yet bowled 8 and took 2 wickets in the first innings where the game was still normal.

Looking at the quotes from Stokes before the last Test, Wood was being saved for Headingley so he’ll definitely come in. I think Ali might play for his strengthening the batting alone, imagine if he had been in at 8 yesterday and I reckon we might have sneaked home! The tough decision is which two seamers miss out, my view would be Anderson and Robinson, but it’s a tough choice as I’m not sure how many overs we will get from Wood and Stokes.

Aussies took Anderson out of the game, by making the game a short-ball fest, which shouldn't have even been legal.

If we go back to the actual rules, where there are only two short balls per over (shoulder height or above), then Aussies will have to pitch the ball up and play normal cricket, which would enable us to do the same and brings Anderson back in the game more.

Didn’t we start the short bowling in the first test? The idea seems to have stuck with us for the rest of the series now.

Am less angry about the specific incident today than I was yesterday, which I suspect will be the case for the England players. The first two Tests have shown me that if we can cut out the silly mistakes we can win this three-two, weather permitting. Time for Anderson to drop out at Headingley. Pope should go for Foakes and Ali come in for Robinson. Not sure either of the final two will happen, not even sure if Foakes is in the squad?
I'm weirdly more angry about it today ..
Having listened to Cummins yesterday , they'd " seen him leaving his crease several times " ..

But the sneaky fker Carey waited till the last ball of the over, on a dolly of a bouncer.
The last ball of the over when the umpires are more likely to be distracted by walking/ handing out back to the bowler etc.
Bairstow clearly marks his ground ( in his mind anyway ) before the ball hit the stumps.

It may well be a technical run out / stumping , but one obtained by deception rather than sporting ability.

I’m with you, I’ve just been watching it back on Sky as I didn’t watch it yesterday (superstition), how long is Ponting on commentary for and how much do Hussain and Atherton pander to him.

Still fuming!!!!

I use to love listening to Richie Benaud commentating on the cricket with the English guys acting as support. He was very knowledgeable about the game and always seemed impartial, even when his team was winning.

Now it is just a whinging Aussie and English Upper-class accents stating the obvious and calling each other by their schoolboy nicknames.

I'm away for the next test and will be sitting in France listening to TMS who tend to give a different view.

The Aussie fella on TMS , who does the " shipppping forecast " called it as ' wrong ' from the moment, til close of play .

You'll enjoy TMS .. it's not quite the same as once over, but the lack of emphasis to provide drama is still a wonderful thing .
There is a serene beauty in basically 8 hours of continuous live radio.

Atherton upper class? He went to Manchester Grammar School, he’s hardly the aristocracy.

Do Pietersen or Morgan have upper class accents?

Nasser is a British Indian Muslim. Did go to a private school like, in Walthamstow.

You know that Manchester Grammar School is one of the most exclusive public schools in northern England right? (and was when Atherton attended it too).

Even before it reverted to full public school status (before Atherton went), it was a full fee-paying school, that allowed a proportion of places for state students who’d passed the 11 plus. That was funded by central government through the direct grant system which was abolished in 1976, before Atherton became a pupil.

Exclusive in the sense that it is expensive? Yeah, I’ve got friends whose kids go there. Yeah, he’s a public schoolboy, but upper class doesn’t quite equate to that. Upper class actually means aristocracy. Atherton is still from Failsworth. He’s middle class and he’s Mancunian.

Did you ever watch the Freddie Flintoff thing about him creating a cricket team from where he was brought up as a kid ?
If not .. its well worth a watch about the " have , and have nots " aspects of cricket
..

I’ve no doubt that’s all true, I grew up playing the game. But Mike Atherton does not have an “upper class accent”.

Keep meaning to watch that programme.

Atherton also attended Cambridge University.

Pietersen only qualifies for England on his mother's side and only chose England after his comments about being dropped from the Natal 1st team stating that he only had been dropped due to South Africa's racial quota. His accent is as annoying as the Aussies.
