Booing the Ramadan drinks break

Come on it’s happened in every televised game for the past week 😠
I didn't know about it as I can't stand football anymore and only ever watch us. The nature of how football has become so stop start is one of the reasons (money and greed being #1). Half time is a drinks break, no others are needed.

Ah that’s not sarcasm. I see. So using the term sky fairies wasn’t designed to mock and belittle? Rightio. Pull the other one mate.
Why would someone who believes in supernatural beings be offended by their supernatural being being called a supernatural being? I’m not going to list them all. So need shorthand

I’m not saying they would be. I’m saying it was designed to mock and belittle and was therefore sarcastic. You’re the one that said sarcasm means you’ve lost the argument. So you lost it early doors!

You’re also being very disingenuous and dishonest. You know what you’re doing using the term sky fairy. Of course you do. The word ‘god’ would have done the job instead of this fake nonsense that you don’t have a collective noun or don’t want to list them all. It’s just pure bull and you know it.

Well that was an argument over organised religion not against this discussion, so if you want to consider it sarcasm I lost an argument that we weren’t having.

"God or Gods" would be better if you really want to be inclusive. Although I'd imagine there'll be some religious folk somewhere that that doesn't cover.

I agree that "sky fairy" could be seen as pejoritive but if you care that deeply then you're probably not running around on a football pitch wearing a gambling shirt sponsor.

😂

Not sarcasm.

Well ok it was sarcasm but in an argument we weren’t having.

You’re a very strange character. Have a nice evening.

Since it clearly offended you, I’ve edited it. So now the only sarcasm on the thread is yours. Of course my ‘sarcasm’ was at a concept, yours was directed at a person which is of course the key difference. But you knew that already.

Oh of course. Wait. I thought the key difference was that yours was in an argument we weren’t having? I’m surprised you enjoy football given that the goalposts don’t tend to move 😂

I’m not offended at all. I’m as atheist as you. I just don’t let it cloud my judgement.

You’re doing a very good impression of someone who is offended for someone who isn’t!

My judgement isn’t clouded by anything you cheeky scamp, who are you to make that call on my thought processes?no one of course. My observation is someone determined to make this personal rather than stick to the discussion at hand, it’s the curse of social media sadly.

The reason is largely because they are misrepresented at grassroots level, pure and simple. In 12 years coaching I’ve had 2 Muslims join my team and played against very few British Asians on opposing teams.

Some of that is due to grassroots games clashing with religious schooling on a weekend, some is cultural, Asian kids tend to be pushed to other activities. It’s not to do with ramadan in my experience.

Maybe because the sport isn’t inclusive?

When people state breaks for breaking your fast won’t be accommodated in this team as the coach believes religion is bull**** then not a surprise is it.

Threads like this are fantastic. People who think they are intelligent, enlightened, respectful and inclusive demonstrate their lack of self awareness by demonstrating the same bigoted and devisive characteristics.

When fans boo taking the knee I applaud it. I'm a supporter of Palestine etc etc. But as a white British lad from Teesside I accept I'm probably racist. Not overtly, not verbally, but through a lack of understanding and experience when you've been brought up through institutions which are (institutionally) racist. But I'm aware of it. I denied white privilege until debating it and realising I didn't understand it and now completely agree.

But to brand people a racist for booing (which I didn't) a drinks break is very devisive. I completely disagree with the break. Not because it's Ramadan, but because half time is a drinks break. At best this is tokenist, at worst it's another corporate advertising tv ploy to justify splitting the game into quarters. It's already been suggested. Remember half time was 10 mins and was changed for tv to 15. I don't agree with the extra subs which was suppossedly brought in for player welfare (not so teams can keep squads full of world class players happy getting game time).

So if I chose to boo the drinks break I would be well within my rights. I wasn't aware it was a 'thing', as people claim we all knew. I don't watch sky or football on TV. So in my eyes it's very presumptuous to brand people booing the drinks break racist. I wholeheartedly disagree with it.

That’s some reach. Kids have roll on roll off subs, they can take a drink regularly. the idea that I’d stop any kid getting a drink is just nonsense, or that I have anything to do with Muslim kids not taking up the game is absolutely ridiculous, but you carry on pointing the finger with some bizarre hypothetical view of my world so that you can walk your imaginary high road

For someone who regularly professes intellectual superiority you are displaying incredible bigotry on this thread.

You really need to read it back and consider how your views on religion are distorting your perspective.
