Coronavirus it's not gone away

Great to hear. It's always going to be about how we personally feel ultimately.
Yes we just said that the longer we stayed in the harder it would be to go out.

So reluctantly we decided to take matters into our own hands and take these trips out.(probably 1hr 30 on Sunday and 1hr on Tuesday)

I can understand peoples reluctance to go out. But 15 weeks was driving us crazy!

NB: This board has been a great help while locked down. Thanks to all.

I don't get where you are coming from?
Schools have been open to keyworkers. If you aren't happy with the education your child is receiving I'd take it up with the school head? Failing that the governors and of no resolution after that get in contact with the council.

where I’m coming from is why, if large groups can congregate inside of a pub then why cant kids go to school properly and get fully educated by teachers who have degrees in them subjects.
With all the will in the world it is impossible to have a proper school day at home in front of the computer or at school in front of a computer with a maths teacher doing science , English and all the other subjects. It’s impossible to have the structure and the other valuable learning from having 20 kids in a class.
Your turning it on my personal circumstance when in fact my argument stands for all kids. They should be at school ahead of their parents and teachers being able to go for a pint.
I don’t fall out with pubs being open. I wouldn’t go. I’m young and fit but not an ‘I’m alright jack kind of guy’. The lockdown has basically finished anyway but Just answer me this. What’s more important. Kids being in school or pubs being open?
(You never said if you had kids)
And by the way your right on the unions being involved. vvankers.

Instead of getting annoyed by the Unions, who are there to protect the interests of workers ... ie teachers, who have constant exposure to the virus, take it up with government, who prioratise commerce over education. From my point of view though, kids have suffered enough... get them into school.

Yes I'm glad someone has remembered about this group.

This is their 15th ( fifteenth) week of lockdown. The forgotten people.

It is a struggle now ( mentally if not physically)so much so that we broke out and went shopping on Tuesday for the first time since March. We also went out for an hour on Sunday to meet friends who we hadnt seen in 15 weeks.

This is what people forgot, for most going out now 15 weeks in is normal and people are behaving as such but for shielders, its a very anxious time even thinking about leaving the house.

Everyone is a potential carrier of the virus and just because we are being careful to keep a distance, doesnt mean others will.

I agree that all pupils should be back at schools. They should never have been off this long in the first place. Should have gone back when folk were been encouraged to go back to work. But then the media got wind of a few unfortunate kids getting a Kawasaki like disease and here we are.
I'm with you man.

with the unions involved its hard for the government to force people to go to work but I’d class teachers in the same bracket as nurses, cops and firemen.
Education is a must not an option.
Im with you, get them back to school

If you were a teacher and shielding, or with family shielding, how would you feel?

Lets blame unions and teachers for wanting to deny children their education because...erm because, no I've got nothing.

The government gave a pathetic amount of notice at a time when announcements were thrown about like confetti to distract from a certain unelected person.

Very little guidence was provided as to how they would go about it and no extra funding allocated to help.

As soon as safety and practicality concerns were raised, teachers and unions were greated with hostility from government, who instead of working constructively with them, vilified them as "militant".

Due to the endless blame game and lack of trust over the governments claims everything was safe, something like 11% of kids were sent back to school.

Even now, the government announcements for September dont add up and again, no extra funding to help with adaptations or for extra staffing costs. Its a joke.

The government are winging it rather than owning it and if they genuinely cared about our childrens education, they would find the money and work with unions/teachers to enable their return safely.

Instead we get a tenner off Nandos and someone saving £15k on a £500k house with billions more lining private pockets.

I’d be apprehensive. me and the wife haven’t had a day off. They should be putting measures in place and teaching kids.

I went and bought a bathroom yesterday. There was probably 20 customers in in the time I was there. There’s 20 kids in a class. They should be at school, or majority of them should be.

If you worked at Aldi and had family shielding how would you feel?
If you worked at a GP practice and had family shielding how would you feel? Etc etc.

As for masks I'd suggest that in NYC it's more likely that so much of the city has been infected (and recovered) rather than a cloth mask made out of bras that is making the difference.

It would make sense as they found out that 55% (according to Cuomo) of people who caught it hadn't left their apartments.

Don't forget the refuse workers and the police (who the guidance doesn't seem to apply to).

Kids going back to school in September why? bring it forward a couple of weeks to make up for lost ground ,the teachers and the kids have had plenty of time off .

And imho you should feel completely empowered to do so, without feeling “guilt” or anything like that. But at the end of the day it’s your risk, and although it’s completely fair game, the rest of society (including children) can’t stay at home until the virus has been totally eradicated, it just isn’t practical.

Is it the unions fault that they are expecting their staff to get the same level of protection as other people in similar positions?

Teachers aren't allowed masks, can't follow social distancing, don't have the space to manage the numbers of children in the classroom in "bubbles". Schools generally are short on teachers (i'm sure not all), and also will have staff shielding who can't teach leaving them short further.

It seems to me the demand for everything that is opening up to the public has to provide significant protection to the staff and public- except schools- they can crack on.

I equally agree as above the schools should be opening, but to blame the unions who are protecting their staff is wrong. Teachers want to teach- its an awful job at times, so they must want to.

People have to be safe first and foremost- just because kids are low risk- teachers/ protection/ capacity of staff/ facilities/ ability to clean/ admin staff all have to be considered in the bigger picture.

Compare the distancing and interventions in place in restaurants and pubs vs the initial proposals at schools- not ideal to have 30 kids in a classroom with 3 adults on a wet summer day in a pandemic.

After being admitted to the Egyptian Health System in March for 37 days, i'm now back in quarantine as my work mate who I have been sharing a car with for 2 weeks to go to work, tested positive yesterday and is unwell, he's on his way to hospital (In Cairo). I tested negative. Getting re-tested on Monday. This is a good test for my immunity.

Certainly a good case study. Good luck, get the vitamins and sunshine in!

We are now in a position where you can take little Johnny on holiday to Greece but he cant go to the school around the corner.

Further, Parents who are saying they wont send their kids to school because its not safe are quite happy with this arrangement. (Generalisation I know).

Its crazy.

Greece has had a spike of infections since opening borders. The route from Bulgaria likely to be closed as well as delisting some safe countries (which we weren't).
