Ridiculous. He tried, it didn't work. Move on. Other clubs do it. Why on earth do we have such sentimentality?
You're getting as bad as the rest atypical!Well someone has to wash the kits I suppose.
We've got a bit of class, well the club has!Ridiculous. He tried, it didn't work. Move on. Other clubs do it. Why on earth do we have such sentimentality?

Well, I’ll hold my hands up and say he seems to be doing well as part of the coaching team. After his terrible time as manager here it takes a good level of courage to come back lower down the tree so to speak and give it your best so well done JW. I owe you an apology.this is a funny thread.
such insight and bile.
That is what I was talking about the other day with a friend. Wondering how long we will actually get to keep hold of Carrick, which, of course, is a bit of a worry for us all given how brilliantly he has done so far. I hope he resists the temptation of a higher-paid job in the PL before his job is done here. Vital we go up this season for that reason as we're going to be inundated with offers if we fumbled in the playoffs.Still think he’ll step up when Carrick moves on in a few years.

There was so much bitterness, sarcasm and vitriol flying about. In the same way that Jonathan Woodgate has learned and grown maybe there is also a lesson to reflect on.What’s funny about?
The fact that people expressed an opinion (v insight) on a message board?
If this is the first time you have heard people express an opinion which may, in the future, turn out wrong, you need to get out more.
He seems to be doing a good job - that is a better story
Trust you’ve changed your tune on this one.Tried to support him, but deep down I always knew it would end like this. Certainly don’t want him hanging around the first team now he’s been sacked, like some David Brent figure, just doesn’t make sense.

Exactly thisTrust you’ve changed your tune on this one.
I don’t like old threads being rehashed with the benefit of hindsight. That said I always thought Woodgate had Boro’s interests at heart and a guy like him, even though he failed in the top spot, should always be welcome at the Club in some capacity.
I’ve said I admire the way he’s been willing to be a number two to either rebuild his legacy and/or for the good of the club.Trust you’ve changed your tune on this one.

However well the team are currently performing, how does anyone know if it couldn’t be better still, with say a Rene Muelensteen instead of Woody? Just like nobody could say for sure whether the team would be better with Declan Rice instead of Jonny Howson!
Anything going well can always be improved on (or made worse). The reality is those posts were with Woody in a different role, one he clearly failed at, there is a case that says he was set up to fail by the man at the top and maybe he is only back because of some personal acknowledgement of decisions made that he was not in control of made by people above him. The bumping of this thread suggests to me that the poster has been carrying something he or she should have let go of a while back.
Well he won a trophy (in fact he won them the trophy) with them so it could be said it wasn’t a bad decision.I’ve said I admire the way he’s been willing to be a number two to either rebuild his legacy and/or for the good of the club.
I’ll still never understand why he left for Spurs, who weren’t actually really any better than us at the time.
There is always someone else of course there is. Having said that for the Club to make what was a pretty bold decision to bring him back to the Club in a coaching capacity it shows that they knew that he would continue to add value despite his failure as a manager. Only insiders would know that, his relationship with the players and his standing in the Club with no bridges burnt anywhere with except the fans ( based on very poor results). Hopefully what he is doing behind the scenes is helping to mend those bridges with us.However well the team are currently performing, how does anyone know if it couldn’t be better still, with say a Rene Muelensteen instead of Woody?
