Asylum seekers to be housed at Catterick Garrison...

So you can guarantee that every single person who comes into this country is accounted for ?
Of course nobody can.
No. And neither can I for Türkiye, or Germany, or Uganda, or Colombia, are any other country that takes in my asylum seekers than us. Can you?

Process the asylum claims quickly. Do it remotely if possible. Stop their perceived (currently real) need for them to travel here. Return those who have had their claims rejected and yet still made the journey.
Set clear processes for immigration, set clear criteria , communicate it and stick to it.
Resource to deal with it, not for the consequences of not dealing with it, as we currently sadly do.

If we could process well in 2010, then we could do so too today.

Where people get at each other’s throats is when words like racist are too easily bandied about.
A country is entitled to stipulate rights for entry and residence, virtually every country does.
But that should not be at odds with a compassionate and internationally legal approach to asylum seekers.
I do understand why asylum seekers can be rejected and removed if they have already arrived, but I don’t understand how they can’t have their request properly considered in a timely way.

Yes. It’s depressing how many uneducated racists are amongst us isn’t it?
Don't really like the terminology or the accusation. It's depressing because people don't understand why we have record number of boat crossings, why they are not illegal and Britain's legal obligations to asylum seekers due to a number of international treaties we are signatories to.

Equally depressing is the speed at which posters want to label others as racist.

They're becoming far more frequent.
Thats because its an important issue which clearly concerns many on here.
There will always be disagreement, sometimes we can lose sight of the bigger picture.

There are people on here who have served in the mob, people who have worked all over the world and others who`ve witnessed events and had experiences which have coloured the pictures of their lives.

Thats why a thread like this brings out that richness, empathy and understanding.

Lived experience is better than some lead writer from University spouting the line in the Daily Mail or playing to the tune of the Sun - journo`s pay-master.

Thats why its important.

It's depressing when they are told the above but still repeat their rhetoric.

I’d bet a hefty sum that Wez has used the phrase ‘I’m not racist but….’ more than once.
