Virgin Media Increases

Just got the increase email. Justifiable whopping it up just under 19%.? 😳😳

Slightly bolloxed as I need a good, fast BB service as I work from home with large (200-300gb) files.

Frustrating as Brsk and BT have laid all of the fibre cables in our street just haven't connected up yet.

Still worth a ring. We (well her inside of the doors) managed to get money off the bill by reviewing the package and seeing what they can do for us. We're in the same boat needing the fibre BB.

I was sent an email stating 17% rise. Called, told them I wanted out and was disgusted by the email which basically stated that they knew everyone was struggling and understood how difficult life was for so many but they had no choice to rip people off. I told them I wanted out and would never rejoin. Went through a few people demanding they end my contact. Third person said I could stay as was, with no increase and knocked a tenner a month off.

virgin doesn't have price rises in their T&C's so you can ask to be released from your contract

If you're in a youfibre area give me a holler as they're doing a few months free of 1gb up/down for £30 a month with no price rises and a referral gets you an extra 2 months free

If not, use it to negotiate a lower contract or actually leave and go elsewhere

The email states I can leave if I want to, so that's great .......if there was an equivalent fibre BB in the street. Which there isn't. It's Virgin or the others on 4mb. 😫😫.

They've said I have to contact them before 31st March to stay/leave......so I'm a bit stumped, going to have to phone them to see what they offer.🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

At the very least negotiate a discount

I'd be tempted to take it out in the other half's name, with cashback etc

On Martin Lewis TV program last night he said that for Virgin 86% of people who haggle get a discount. There are people who know more about this than me, but suggest you phone them and tell them that you are going to leave and see what they say.

Is suggest the mse forums - if you google mse forum virgin haggling there is a huge thread which will give you an idea of what you should be able to negotiate

I haggle at the end of every contract. Currently they knocked £8 £10? off which brought it back to an "affordable level". Hanging on for the other providers to connect up - think Brsk were offering 1gb for £20 month, but they are slow sorting the street.

Virgin are dogsh*t. I'm with them out of necessity, not any loyalty. Their router is sh*t, it's 8-9 yr old WiFi is crap and they are not interested in upgrading/replacing. As soon as I can move I will.

Wouldn't give us a discount and were more than happy to just terminate the contract there and then. Their prices are a ***take.

Spent a lot of time managing retentions teams and can confirm what has been said above. Leave it until early in the month as staff are targeted on cost per save and start afresh at the beginning of each month...

From previous experience and knowing four people who work/ worked in retentions you need to get off the call with sales/ customer services, and actually schedule the cancellation, it's the retention team you need to be speaking to, the one who calls you back about 10-30 days before you're due to be cut off. They have more power.

You can always cancel the scheduled cut-off, or go ahead with it and put it in someone else's name, getting a new subscriber discount.

Brsk site says £20 a month for 9 months then £49 so 24 month contract works out at £38 a month on average

They will after this year. The letter confirms it's inflation plus 3.9% every April from now on with no right to end the contract.
