We’ve been absolutely thrilled by the positive response to Sir Bobby’s Football Run and thanks again for joining us to ‘run a match’ for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

In fact, we’ve had so much interest we’ve decided the referee’s going to allow some extra time! So, if you need a little longer to prepare, please take advantage of some additional training as the nights get lighter and run your match in either March or April.

Please let your friends know and together we can get even more people involved with Sir Bobby’s Football Run.

Many of our runners are aiming to complete a full match (10km) and we also have lots of less experienced runners challenging themselves to run a half (5km).

Sir Bobby would be very proud of everyone taking part, both because you’re raising funds to help us find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer, and because you’re getting fit and staying active.

Emily Gettins, a respite carer from Whitburn, and her three sons Harry, Joe and Nico are all looking forward to running a match together.

Emily says: “Sir Bobby’s Football Run is a great opportunity to keep us all active while also raising funds for a fantastic charity. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation makes such a difference to people across our region and beyond.”

Harry and Joe Gettins also play for Sunderland City Juniors Football Club, where all eight teams are signing up and have collectively set themselves an ambitious target to raise £1,000. What fantastic support.

If you’ve requested a running vest then you will either have received it or we’ll be sending it out shortly. If not, then you must be running in your favourite football shirt and we’re greatly enjoying seeing the pictures of runners training in different club colours on Twitter and Facebook.

We also have a Facebook group for the event where team members are sharing training tips and supporting each other.

As you know, we ask all participants to aim to raise £50 but do feel free to raise as much as you can. As part of your registration process you will have been given the option to automatically create your own fundraising page. If you do need a hard copy of a sponsorship form, we can either email this to you or send one in the post. Please email nuth.charity@nhs.net to request this.

Remember, once you’ve completed your Football Run (either 10km or 5km), please send a screenshot of it to us at nuth.charity@nhs.net from Strava, MapMyRun or whichever app you prefer to use, and we’ll send you your certificate and a Sir Bobby Robson Foundation pin badge.

Thank you once again for taking part in Sir Bobby’s Football Run. You’re helping us continue the work Sir Bobby began when he launched his charity and we’re very grateful.
