Zone of interest - bafta nominated

“The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.”

An interesting concept for a film because as incredible as it seems there really was this obscene juxtaposition between evil and the mundane.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this Jedi.

I recently finished reading a book by Heather Morris called 'Three Sisters' (true story) and visited Auschwitz Birkenau last December. It was snowing and so eerie. After reading the book and visiting the place I just can't imagine what the suffering must have been like

You might like to read the late (great) Martin Amis's book on which the film was based; also called The Zone of Interest (2014).
No real danger of spoilers as the it's not the plot but the premise (proximity of normal family life and the horrors of the camp) which drives the novel

Thanks I'll look that up (y)

Excellent book that's covers a lot of this area of history. The normality of life in that house when surrounded by such horrors is truly hard to fathom.

Hans and Rudolf
That’s the scary thing as we often like to portray evil figures from history especially as almost machine like robots but the reality is that they weren’t they had ordinary lives away from the horrors.

That’s what makes it so chilling.

I'm going to see this on monday, mainly because of Sandra Huller. She was brilliant in my favourite film of the year, Anatomy of a Fall.
EDIT The Guardian interviewed her and her co-star today.
