Zero chance of a London lockdown

Queen's travel to Windsor isn't 'essential', Johnson Snr's trips to the pub aren't either yet they expect us to do what we're told. It's a pretend lockdown that just applies to the plebs
In fairness they expect us to do as we are asked. As it's common sense.

It's people ignoring them that'll force them to make us do as we are told.

Lockdown working so well in Italy.. as it gets extended further.
The issue is more likely that Italy did not start lock down early enough. Plus they did not enforce it well enough.

Hopefully for me Spain is doing a better job. Who knows.

I doubt whether the UK is doing a better job than Italy or Spain. So watch out for what is going to hit the UK soon.

They will announce any lockdown with zero notice to stop a mass evacuation. No one wants to be locked down, so if they have somewhere else to go, they will. But that will defeat the objective.

We had a similar problem here in Spain. With a lot of people in Madrid fleeing to their second homes in the south of the country. Before the lock down was announced. Bringing more of the virus to Andalucía and Murcia. Thus making the situation worse.

Exactly. I don't work in London and contemplated coming up north rather than risk going into London and being trapped for a few months. Decided against it because I'm more likely to be infected than people up there but you can bet others wouldn't think like that.

Well they're not really closing schools and they're not stopping people from socialising so what's the point of closing down London?

They either have to enforce what they are telling people to do or not bother. At the minute its somewhere in the middle and it's not working.

When they locked down northern Italy loads of people scarpered down south taking the virus with them. Same thing happened in China when they locked down Wuhan.
I imagine this, along with not wanting to exacerbate panic buying is what informs current policy.

I'd imagine what's round the corner is curfews and then restrictions on how often you can leave your house with some enforcement. Rather than roadblocks.

Staggering measures gives both people and the govt/police/army time to prepare.
this exactly - if they put London is in lockdown the rush to get out of there would be phenomenal - most 'young professionals' with no ties other than room rental would be straight back to their home towns, me included.

In France we were given 16 hour's notice - Macron's address was at 8pm and the restrictions applied at noon the next day. It's difficult to do it much quicker for organisational reasons, getting road checks in place etc etc. However a lot of people got wind of what was happening and left Paris in the days before - if you have any sense you should be able to see what's coming and move before it happens. I'd already be out of there.

I can’t though. The only place I really have to go is the North East to stay with family but they are all at risk. I’m actually not worried about contracting the virus. I know being locked down and the damage to my business will almost certainly be worse for me.

I am worried about spreading it though so I really don’t want to go to a place with much fewer cases

I need to find out what's happening with my work, but if I'm told today that I'm working from home for the next couple of weeks then i think I'll be leaving London asap. I won't if I start to show any symptoms and I also won't be putting any at risk groups in danger .
