Showing why he's the best Keeper we've had in ages. If it wasn't for him we'd be dead and buried by now. He's the main reason why we still have a vague chance of getting something out of this match.

Steffen was the only Boro player who deserved applauding today.

Could have been 5-0 if not for him.

Steffen was Our MoTM today - a 1-6 or 1-7 might however have got the ‘hidden in the dark shadows and completely ambivalent’ Gibson to actually open his mouth and apologise for the mess he has created. A 1-2 he can continue to hide away why he visits the properties that are his real love. Alongside Giles and Muniz- Steffen is one of the 3 players who are worthy of wearing a Boro shirt.

He was our best player today by a mile, as others have said, and quite frankly looks a number of levels above us. He looked proper frustrated at the final whistle.

Giles has never won a tackle since he signed for us. Just what you want in a relegation battle.

When he made that save from the free kick in the 1st half the look on his face said it all. He just shook his head, almost like he couldn't believe what was happening.

More telling was at the final whistle. The rest of the squad acknowledged the crowd but he walked straight off on his own and straight down the tunnel

I don't think he was brought in for a relegation battle! A great signing for a club with a vision to improve on last season. Not this shtshow :)

Not sure about that, he definitely applauded the north stand before leaving the pitch, gave his gloves to some children too.

Eh? Rubbish on the first goal and, how the hell can you not move when you have clear sight of a shot from 25 yards. He's rubbish. Any keeper in the league would have been expected to save the rest of those chances.

I've criticised him on here this season & yes, IMHO, he was at fault for their 2nd but he saved us time & time again from a right tonking

I said on another thread, I think this present team is as bad as i've seen & if Steffen wasnt on his game today then it would, could & should have been similar scoreline to the 5-1 battering they inflicted on us in November 1982 when Noel Brothetston ( RIP) ran us ragged

I was at that match and when Boro went 2 nil down I mentioned that to the bloke sitting next to me. "I'd take that now" he quipped.

Christ that was a grim start to the season in 82-83.

We lost our first 3 home matches 1-4 to Burnley, Fulham and Grimsby.
Just as we looked to have settled down with wins at home against Bolton QPR and Barnsley, we got a 1-5 bumming from Blackburn, then went to Wolves and got tonked 4-0 a week later. All this before the end of November.
