Yusuf vs Steward

A lot of talk on social media of Yusuf being upset at the game today. Apparently he was sat slumped in his seat during the 2nd half.

Seems it was about a steward preventing from celebrating with the players after we scored. I've just watched the highlights back and did notice that after we'd scored you see Yusuf near the SW corner. Not sure if he was about to run across to celebrate with the players (which he often does) but seems the steward was expecting him to do this and stands in his way.

There’s defo a new vibe from the stewards.. and it’s not a good vibe either.

I might be misunderstanding it but why was he sat slumped in his seat for the second half because he wasn’t allowed to celebrate the goal with the players? Does he normally celebrate every goal with them or something?

Edit: sorry just noticed you said he often does

Isn’t that literally the steward’s job?

Not just for Yusuf, but they aren’t keen on any fans approaching players or the pitch for obvious reasons.

I could understand the outrage if he was slumped in his seat because the steward gave him a one two. Good hands kidda.

A lot has been said and presumed without all the facts being shared. So the full story is as follows:

In the first few minutes of the game one of the fans on my row tells me that a steward told her to tell me not to run across when we score. No stewards have had any conversations with me about this either today or in the past. I was bemused as I felt if the stewards felt like this, then they should tell me directly.

So I began the game a little annoyed. We then score and Latte Lath celebrated right next to the fans very near my seat. I attempt to run there however one the stewards blocks me, and me only. Multiple other supporters were celebrating with Latte Lath, so I was upset that only I was being targetted. When I tried to go past him, he wouldnt let me and stuck his arm out. This then made me extra upset, adding the information I was given at the start of the game, I felt very wound up and upset so i went back to my seat, kicked the red barriers and sat down (totally unacceptable reaction which I apologise for). Four stewards come around me and try and justify but I wasnt really in the mood for listening and didnt respond.

The remainder of the first half I stayed sat down sulking (again unacceptable). Multiple supporters approached me and supported me, which I didnt expect.

Second half I stood up and watched the game, and sang for the last 20 minutes or so back to my normal self.

There are a number of things that I could do better which i will reflect on. But there are also things Boro stewards could do better with too - with communication at the top of the list.

I hope this clarifies things before rumours start.

Its a shame this is even a topic as the result today should be what everybody is discussing.

Quite unprofessional that they wouldn’t even have a chat with you directly but via someone else.

Good post and agree whilst I can see this would have been frustrating for you, it isn’t really anyone else’s place to be making posts about it.

Thanks for clearing this up Yusuf. I apologise if you didn't appreciate the post but was just hoping for some clarification after all the social media speculation. If you'd like for it to be deleted then I'm sure admin will do that.

If I'm to be honest, it looked like a steward did try and stop several fans who Lath had ran towards after he'd scored, but there were too many of them, hence why they made it to the barrier. I'm guessing they'd already made a plan to prevent you from running across because it's something you often do, but I agree it was unprofessional of the stewards for them not to speak to you directly about this.

Its fine dont worry. Its more when people presume or comment when they dont know what happened like the "grow up" comment

Be interesting to get a club response in that, hope your in contact.

Interesting to know if the steward made the call by themselves and this is a deliberate target (feels that way) or whether someone higher up has made the call

What we want to see if consistent stewarding and respectful combination. Doesn’t feel either was achieved

Nice honest reflections from you too 👌

There was a real s***y vibe from the stewards today and it was noticeable in other parts of the ground. The game is for the fans and not for the stewards and I think whoever is in charge needs to be reminded of this.

It’s a high viz coat for a jumped up sand bag.. they are not MI5 or CIA agents charged with some sort of secret undercover mission. Football fans (who have payed for very expensive tickets) want to support their teams and enjoy the atmosphere.. we don’t need some wonky Geoffery giving it big licks just because the local Toys R’Us has been shut down.

I heard you were no longer allowed to attend games in the North/North East corner due to over exciting the kids who adore you and cause the walkways to be blocked due to wanting to be near you

Any truth in this? Technically you arent allowed to sit in the GRFZ on your own i guess

The stewards can be right knobheads, the fat lad who was getting stick from their fans and took his top off in the first half got chucked out at HT 😲 he had a couple kids with him too would have thought a quiet word or relocating would have been appropriate, it all seemed in good fun from where I was sat, even if he was a little flustered about it he was laughing and it was just a bit of banter (not like he tried to cross the netting). They claim he gestured with his hands... Well if that's the criteria for ejection then about 2000 other Boro fans should have gone too... Ridiculous attitude from the jobsworths in blue hi viz, hope someone sticks a complaint in...

There hasnt been an official "banning" from me sitting in the north stand, the picture above. That was 2 years ago when we played Reading, it began with a couple of fans coming over for a pic then going back to their seat, then after we scored the fourth and fifth it became busy. The issue was blocking the walkway, however it just happened, started with 5 which quickly turned to 10, then before you know it i was surrounded by loads that ran from the east.

This was one of the best things i've seen at recent games, the interaction of the GRFZ kids and Yusuf, creating their own singing mob was excellent.
