Yusuf ignore the muppets

Am I right in saying that is more often possible to send and receive texts inside grounds rather than other online communication.
It's bandwidth that is an issue so it is very difficult to get any internet activity in the 15-20 mins lead up to kick off, half-time and straight after full-time as more people are trying to use it then. Outside of those times internet is useable but still slow. So while the game is in play you can usually get some internet activity.

Texts are better as they don't rely on internet signal.

Was unable to connect at all at Wembley yesterday. Or Blackburn. Bradford was extremely slow. So not just Boro......🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Just send an Sms to a phone number with details of stand, seat number, what they look like, what they're doing, and stewards can keep an eye on it. Or is that meant to already happen, or maybe perhaps people don't know the number? Is it on tickets?

I'd never even heard of this until I read Rob's post today so definitely needs to be publicised more

Yes - I have tried to put this across that there is a text number several times before. It is often displayed on the big screen before kick off and I am sure it will be tomorrow. But is hard to remember when yuo are at the match. So, we just have to keep on spreading the word and getting as many people as possible to put it in their phone contacts.

On Matchday

  • Text the MFC Equality, Diversity and Inclusion text line on 07340 718965, giving full details of the incident and which stand, row and seat it took place if possible. The text will be sent to the matchday safety team who will investigate via steward intervention as well as direct or remote observation
  • Speak to a club steward or other member of staff
  • Use the free Kick It Out App

I don't think staring at the person(s) giving out the abuse for long enough to be able give that much detail is going to encourage people. Think going down and telling a steward might work - as long as they don't expect you to stand next to them in full visibility and point at the racists

"Many Premier League and Football League clubs have their own TRS, and fans can make reports during and after the game – check with your local club. Reports are directed to the club's control room, which will then investigate the report • Kick It Out's text report number is 07956 535 057."

If multiple people send an anonymous text to a number where stewards can deal with potential abusers is alot safer than going down physically to a steward and pointing people out? If they see you pointing them out I don't think they're gonna be very happy, especially if you have kids.

It's great that this is all in place and it can't be publicised enough if you ask me. I once confronted a racist behind me at a Boro game and was told to calm down by those around me. The stewards did nothing and I've never felt more alone. But this was in 1995 at Ayresome Park. It's good to see that we have moved on in terms of dealing with it at least.

I remember our first season at the riverside..
some guy stood up and shouted ‘get moving you lazy Italian b*stard’ or words to that effect.. anyway.. he was hooked straight away.. the stewards were dead on it.

The guy didn’t understand why what he said was racist.. he even repeated what he’d said before being walked out.

Fair enough.. it felt like a new era.. we were professional snd international oof how good is this!!

Now we’ve got these incidents cropping up and it feels really backwards and scummy.

Yusuf - Is surely now one of our own.

What I men by that is that.

I see the Yusuf the Super Boro fan - not someone of a different skin colour.

How can you hate somebody like this? A genuine, a Boro loving, warm human being who only wants to spread joy.

You’re a top man Yusuf. Don’t ever let a minority distract from what the vast majority think of you. UTB!

Just when you think the man couldn’t get any higher in peoples estimations.

Hopefully we can rid our club of the scum that try and spoil it for people like Yusuf.

I understand why he got hooked but do you not think its a bit of a grey area.

Like if you shout scouse b*stard or mackem b*stard.

Genuine question. Are we just calling that guy racist because he shouted something insulting at someone from another country, or do we apply the same rule for discriminating against people no matter where they're from even if from your own country?

"Soft southern <INSERT INSULT HERE>" is another one.

Often shouted at people from overseas or who are actually northern but play for a club south of Leeds.

Yeah it’s all discrimination, there’s nothing stopping you from shouting ‘get moving you lazy b****d’, but as soon as you add a nationality or region in there etc that’s when it becomes discriminatory, because it doesn’t need to be there and the fact it has been implies that it’s also a sleight.
