Others, like Lee Dong Gook were so notoriously bad they're not obscure.

Lee Dong Gook might not have set the world alight with us but he got over a hundred caps for South Korea and played in two World Cups. I'd dispute a 'notoriously bad' label.

For us he was.

I think reasons you give make him less obscure, not a better player

He actually played in the Champions League for them against Man Utd. But that was about it.
Played for a handful of random teams then disappeared in his mid-twenties (in footballing terms, not literally I don't think).

An old teacher at Nunthorpe used to house Boro academy players and she had Hutchinson.

Her neighbour complained that she had taken up smoking again and was dropping her tabs over the fence into his garden. She hadn’t.

Hutchinson loved a smoke and would flick them out of the velux window in his loft room.

Splitting hairs, but there's also a slight difference between obscure and forgettable.

So a slight tension between the thread title and the "rules" of the thread which is players you'd mention down the pub and no one would've heard of them.

I'd say players like Fabio and Tarmo Kink are pretty obscure, but most boro fans will know who they are and remember them.
 
Can’t see them mentioned elsewhere, Brian Marwood, John Gannon and Chris Kamara (all loans)
