Your favourite Boro signing that cost under £500,000.

Clayton Blackmore. May sound a daft one, but for me symbolises the start of a fantastic era for the club under Robson. Blackmore (to me) seemed a luxurious signing from Utd albeit on a free. He was the first of a few that came in under Robbo that changed the shape of the team.

Bernie Slaven must have been gutted to see him get a sell out crowd v Man U for his testimonial.
 
John Hickton for me, but given the price of players up to the crazy prices I & many on here, could most likely name a team of 1 - 11 with players total cost less than £500k
 
George Friend 100%. Great player and great influence on the dressing room. A vital part of our promotion winning team and continued to be a great member of the squad right up till the moment he left. Disappointing he wasn't able to get a send off in front of a crowd really.

Would possibly say Robbie Mustoe as well, managed to hold down his place in the squad throughout the Lawrence, Robson and early McClaren years. Even when we were bringing in the likes of Juninho, Emerson, Ince and Gazza - Mustoe still managed to remain a vital member of the squad and more than earned his place in the side under each manager.

Yep totally agree, I often say on here, the biggest compliment I could give Robbie is that when Robbo came & the money he could spend for big name players he brought to the club, Mustoe was still one of the 1st names on the teamsheet
 
I'd say recently it's got to be George. Just short of 350 appearances for 100k..... Simply can't knock that👏

I guess you can look at Mustoe as an absolute bargain. Although I'm sure at the time 350k was a few quid for us.

Yeah now I’ve thought on it Mustoe turned out to be great value but his fee wasn’t insignificant for us at the time. Even Slaven’s was when the club was skint and when you go back a bit all our signings would be under half a mil anyway. £100k for Friend in the modern era is quite amazing.
 
Shout out to Steve Pears. Think he cost £80k. He was part of that 86 team with Bernie, and they both clearly got what it was to play for the Boro. Both still live in area as well.
