Totally agree - I've always wondered this.

I'm not a fan of the "finest team (in football?!) the world has ever seen" song. Even setting aside the painful truth that it's not remotely true, the words don't fit the rhythm and it comes out awkwardly.

I've always thought it "You never notice how much I love you".
Which has made sense with a number of our teams over the years, though not this one.

Like a lot of our songs people make their own words up anyway.
Christ we often can't even get a name right, let alone an entire line or full song.

Surely the Boro song is an adaption of " you"ll never know dear how much I love you".
The tune with "You'll never know just how much I love you " is a different song and tune.

That was the original line - but not been sung that way for perhaps three decades. Chinese whispers changed it over the years. This was pointed out to me in the 1990s by someone researching football fan chants and how they can change over time.
