Worst Ever Boro 11 - We have our team!

It was a shock how bad Alan Wright was. He'd been a very reliable consistent full back for Villa. He'd fallen off a cliff when he came to us. But you can't pick him on only two appearances.

Branco was hilariously bad, but I have the fond memory of his first reserve game with 18,000 attending and we saw his run up to a free kick.

Joe Bolton gets my vote. Awful.

Alan Wright played two games. He was unlucky in that he was brought in as cover but then had to be used in a Boro team that was clearly not ready at the start of the season (we lost 4 out of the first five and the one we didn't was the 0-0 at Lecester) and he was made the space goat for it all. That he had a perfectly decent career elsewhere shows a why you can't pick a 'worst-ever' based on a couple of appearances.

Looking like a shootout between Branco and Joe Bolton!

As others have pointed out, as useless as Wright was I don’t think it’s fair to pick him based on one performance against one of the best PL teams ever.

Think he was just past it when we got him.

As you say, good player for Villa. Did he get an England call up at one point?

Similar to Dibble. Clearly wasn't a bad player in his prime but had an absolute shocker for us.

Branco was a bad signing for us however, he was once a good defender/footballer

Joe Bolton was an awful defender/footballer and gets my vote.

Can you include Branco? He didn't really ever feature, did he, other than one league cup game (from memory). Didn't play a league game did he? Is it me?

10 premier league appearances
Just looking that up. I was there, but don't remember him playing a single league game. I remember him taking a free kick at a night game, that I thought was a cup match.
it was a long time ago. 🙈
I remember a low fizzing free kick, going wide. And BIG shorts... It looked like he was towing a caravan.
I guess it is his place in the worst team 😂

I bet that's the night game I was at.

————————-Valdes———————-
Barragan—St Ledger—Espinosa—Branco
Hamill———Shawky—Guedioura—Nimely
——————-Gestede—Mido—————-
I think I’m softening my stance on a few of these.. Mido’s broken pelvic bone has put him in a different light. Kris Boyd could be a contender for being the softest ‘big lad’ I’ve ever seen play football. Britt Assombalonga could get the nod for failing to match Fatty Boyd’s total with us in his last season.
However, Marlon King should be in there really.. should never had been at the club imo. Not wanted by his club Wigan and then sent back by his loaning club Hull.

As annoying as Adam Hamill was.. he wasn’t as annoying as Adam Johnson. He was a left winger with us told us it was either him or Stewart Downing in the team as he couldn’t play in the same side as him. Then he went to Man City and did not live up to his potential, didn’t do what was asked of him.. then back home to Sunderland. He’s not going to make any other boro XI

Kevin Thomson was a big disappointment.. but I think premier league appearances should count for something.

Maybe we could adopt 3-5-2 in memory of our worst ever manager?

Struggling with a central defender and another winger..
