Worst Boro player you've ever seen?

bikey is well up there for me. Absolute liability every time he stepped on the pitch.

There was a midfielder who we got on loan from city in the karanka days who was also of questionnable ability. I can't remember his name for the life of me.

Macdonald was on just under 30k a week and he gets an easy ride from fans as he basically downed tools and refused to play for a couple of months.

Did he down tools or was he dropped and out of favour with Mowbray? I can’t remember the reasons but I do remember him doing well when he got back in.

Yeah , well national league may be harsh but is interesting that his move after Millwall ended up being him going to non league so maybe I wasn’t far off with my judgement. He wasn’t for me but as you say fans like that type of player

He was decent for a season. Think we might have finished 7th? Sat as the holding midfielder in front of Bates and Williams and we had a really good defensive record which he was a big part of. Think it was the year we had Ikeme and Smith on loan in goal and both did well.

His form went downhill rapidly after that though. As quickly as his waistline expanded funnily enough.

I remember a quote from Mowbray (although not sure how reliable) when asked why Bailey wasn't playing and it was along the lines of "how can I select someone in that condition when I have players like Ledesma doing extra sprints after training who don't get a game".

If I remember rightly wasn't Mowbray trying to force him out because of the wages he was on? I remember there was a period where Mowbray didn't play him and then he eventually got the chance and did well. Felt like McDonald was trying to prove a point at the time.

That’s how I remember it

I'm sure his downturn in form coincided with his missus at the time getting a bit controversial on social media, having a go at the club and management, in-turn having arguments with fans etc.

I think we were losing at home to Bolton. He brought McDonald on 2nd half and he scored twice and won us the game. Think that kick-started his run of form.

Yeah remember it well. I was with a mate at the game who absolutely hated McDonald and was totally team Mogga on the whole debacle , I was ripping him after the game haha ! God they were some bad times. Some of the players we had , Christ

Dont ever remember McDonald ever doing well. Its not really his salary ots that he was rubbish and totally pit pf his depth. He wasnt a striker who could bury it. He needed four or five chances to score. He also didnt make things out of nothing. Like a Haasselbaink, Viduka or even Nemeth to an extent. That he gets so much leeway from fans to this day baffles me

Surprised no one has mentioned Carlos De Pena yet, the one who got away now he's scoring in the Champions League.

I can’t really say he never looked like a footballer in the small time I see him play but he just never really got involved. Glad to see him doing well now though because apparently he we was a good part of the jigsaw behind the scenes

Don’t think anyone is claiming he was in anyway similar to Viduka or Jimmy to be fair. Just that his name shouldn’t of been brought up on this thread.

Mido, not perhaps "the worst" in terms of skill or any other quantifiable measure but in terms of performance to talent and the amount of trouble he caused in the squad one of the few players who I have hated whilst wearing a Boro shirt. Complete waste of oxygen (let alone the money we paid for and to the useless chunt)

Not saying he was in their league i’m saying he was a limited footballer who didn’t really take his chances and couldn’t make things happen the way some can and not just names mentioned already but players more of his ilk like a Slaven could. He should be on this list for me like for the reasons mentioned. No problem if people rate him then or now just not an opinion i share

I remember thinking he was gonna be class after his first couple of performances. How wrong was i
