Word about the ref today

Ex professional player whose career was ended by injury
Thought he was best ref we have had all season
And coming from me that is high praise indeed
And Millwall fans clearly thought he was the worst (he was booed off at halftime). Remind me to hoof this next time someone demands a referee's sacking because of a decision s/he has made against us or claims that these things don't level out over a season.

How about your opinion of the ref rather than the Millwall fan’s opinions

I didn't think he was that clever and seemed to miss a few niggly fouls from both teams. There was one incident where one of our players was all over the Millwall player's back, we won the ball and he allowed us to break. We've had better referees and I even named Robert Jones, who refereed us against Aston Villa in my Star Men.

Philly-Red stated he didn't notice him which I would agree is normally a good indication of the ref having a good game. I'm not sure about that though and stand to be corrected.

Things don't even out over a season. Or rather they might do, but they might not do.

The refs don't all get together, discuss which sides have had bad decisions and plan to give them a few dodgy pens to even things up.

If a roulette wheel lands on black 20 times in a row it doesn't make it more likely it'll be red on the next spin.

If you get 3 dodgy pens against you 3 games in a row, doesn't make it any more likely you'll get 3 dodgy pens later in the season.

It's just nonsense . Always annoyed me that saying (clearly 😂).

I think that was due to previous moments in the game where a fair few of there players were slipping but then appealing for fouls think it got to the point where the ref had enough and unless it was really obvious he wasn’t giving it.

Interesting insight into your psyche there festa than anything else. 🤔🤣😉

This is a fascinating area and one which a thesis could be written about whether the bad decisions teams get generally evens itself out across the season’
Hmmmm 🤔

I say, it depends on the leader you have.

I've never heard the roulette wheel analogy before, but I like it and will certainly pinch it for use in future arguments!🤣

It's not an analogy, it's answering a different question.

We are supporters of a football team so we are biased. We saw yesterday's ref as a good one because he gave a lot of decisions in our favour or we didn't notice him because he gave a lot of decisions in our favour so he must have been a good ref. Millwall supporters are also biased and thought he was a bad ref because he gave a lot of decisions against their team.

I've noticed a lot more refs in the past few weeks letting little niggly fouls go, they seem much more keen to let the game flow. I can only see that as a good thing.
