if you haven't seen this watch the highlights. incredible story and an error by a team of monumental proportions.
Monumentally cocked up did the Dutch team. They should have been having messages relayed to the team but failed to do. Very surprised because the Dutch are usually meticulous in their organisation. It's one of the reasons I'm happy to see no team radios allowed at the Olympics. Mind you it would have not been difficult to have a chalkboard at the side of the road. I kept wondering why the dutch had no more than one rider on the front despite having 4 riders in the peloton even at the 10km to go point.
Have you not read the thread? That’s exactly what happened.I could be wrong but did the Dutch girl think she had won - the commentator said she was celebrating to have taken silver but i have a feeing looking at her celebration that she thought she had taken gold.
anyone else notice that?
Yes I notice that. Lizzie Deignan seemed to think the Dutch rider had won too. I'm sure she said Anna was the best today.I could be wrong but did the Dutch girl think she had won - the commentator said she was celebrating to have taken silver but i have a feeing looking at her celebration that she thought she had taken gold.

Well an Anna did win but the Dutch team have already fessed up to a mea culpaYes I notice that. Lizzie Deignan seemed to think the Dutch rider had won too. I'm sure she said Anna was the best today.
I just thought people were saying that the mistake was that the peloton left it too late to attack. Great race though.Have you not read the thread? That’s exactly what happened.
Dutch riders thought they were racing for gold in Tokyo Olympics women's road race
The Netherlands team thought they'd brought back all of the breakaway riders in a confusing finalewww.cyclingweekly.com
I do t believe that could be right. At one point the four Dutch girls were chatting to themselves. Why didn’t Vos say something?Dutch divided at Olympics: Vos knew Kiesenhofer was away, Van der Breggen didn't
Everyone agrees they underestimated surprise winner Kiesenhoferwww.cyclingnews.com
Of course! I didn't know the Austrian rider's first name was Anna! I thought Lizzie meant Anne!Well an Anna did win but the Dutch team have already fessed up to a mea culpa
I thought it strange how very few people congratulated the winner, but it does seem to fit now with the confusion over who had actually won.Sorry I didnt mention the incident in the opening post but didnt want to spoil it for those still to watch.
Yes it was obvious from when AVV crossed the line that she thought she had won and then when she realised that she hadn’t burst into tears. And it subsequently came out that she had indeed missed the numbers ahead. An old trick from the pre 80s before race radio. Get in the break, sneak off the front and steal the victory.
It was the performance of the Games so far by the Austrian.
