Winter Walks - Selina Scott

I just turned the TV on and noticed on the Guide that a programme had just finished "Walking with Steph".
As luck would have it, our Steph was about to walk down Littondale from Foxup to Arncliffe, a place I would put in my top 3 on the planet and home to my favourite pub; The Queens Arms.
That's my breakfast viewing sorted. :)

If you're in the Bolton Abbey area and have time, get yourself up Troller's Gill, a true hidden gem. Park on the roadside near Parcivall Hall (the gardens may be open) and follow the beck up. It's best to go up the eastern valley, which is trollers gill, like a mini goredale scar ... if you have decent waterproof boots there's an old mine adit that you can enter just before you exit the gorge on the right ... it only goes about 15m, so safe. Eventually you will come to a small footbridge ... follow that path over to the western valley. There's an old lead and fluorspar mine to peek into (too dangerous to enter) ... you'll notice that the path descends on top of old mine spoil which is all calcite, bits of fluorspar and barytes .... so the ground sparkles beneath your feet if the sun is out. Then follow the beck back to Parcivall Hall. You can do the loop in less than an hour but it's a beauty.
I’ll have a look at that. I’ve set up an Instagram account where I share my routes and photos ‘the_wynyard_wanderer’ if anyones bothered 🤣.

first things first I have to get out of Kazakhstan

Just watched the Selina Scott episode last night. Absolutely fabulous scenery 👌
Great boozer to finish off in also 👍🍻
Will definitely watch the other episodes.
Thanks for 'head's up,.

Her parents live (or lived) in Appleton-le-Moors only a stone's throw from Gibson's new gaff. She now breeds alpacas for their wool, near Malton.
She used to live in Saltburn in the 70's with her two sister's, Victoria and I think Helen, and her brother Robin. Really nice family. I really fancied one of the sister's!

"American Weirwolf"? Is that the one where the American goes to Yorkshire and gets dammed for eternity?
And speaking of Yorkshire, I'm looking forward to Simon Armitage's walk to Robin Hood's Bay.

There's an idea for a new TV programme - "Our Yorkshire Werewolf"

The gallops he just walked past used to belong to a trainer in the 70s called Jack Calvert. I had a friend who was a stable lad there in those days. Jack is long gone and Bryan Smart is there now.

Love these programmes. The very best of the BBC.
Just a suggestion for something a little similar, check out this guy on youtube. He's a little bit of a quirky character, but its a quiet introspective and informative take on some beautiful walks and landscapes with some taken around here, Whitby and Hutton le Hole for example. Lots in the Peak District too but loads to dip into. I find them quite relaxing. Something about his voice maybe?
