" Will Middlesbrough’s fascination with signing Sunderland players continue this summer? " [We Are Wearside]

The Deckchairs are clearly looking to release their despair at having to play Accrington and Fleetwood again next season.
Their inability to do more than sniff around promotion from Division Three is obviously painfull for the little fishing villagers.
Having been beaten by a team who havent been above the Third Division since 1961, it must be difficult to delude even the most ardent Mackems that they are a "big" club.
Fact is, they are down there because they aint good enough to play any higher.
We`ve made good signings in McNair and brought Watmore in from the cold: - its amazing what a Manager with experience and skill can do to nurture a player.

Clearly, there was no one on Wearside who would give Watmore a chance or knew how to manage him back to fitness.

So heres the latest diatribe from the Wearside Wombles:

Will Middlesbrough’s fascination with signing Sunderland players continue this summer?

Middlesbrough have a peculiar predilection for signing Sunderland players.

Lincoln first leg 2 Sunderland blog

Is Neil Warnock really ready to pick over the stinking carcass of the Sunderland squad this summer?

The collective wisdom (lol) of the Teesside lot seems to suggest that Neil Warnock might have had a look at three Sunderland players of late.
The trio are all out of contract at the Stadium of Light this summer, so the risk of a failed swoop is mitigated somewhat.

But with the Boro boss surely under pressure to make the Championship play-offs as a minimum next season, squad fillers from up the A19 will hardly excite the Riverside’s returning fans next season.

Ahead of last week’s playoff first leg against Lincoln, Warnock concluded an interview by saying he was off to watch Sunderland.

Has he still got his eye on Charlie Wyke, Lee Burge or Denver Hume?

Charlie Wyke has been linked with a return to Teesside for some time. Whether the 30-odd goal can make the step up to the Championship may be debatable. Though it’s said that Warnock wants three strikers this summer. However, the Hartlepool Mail reported during the week that Wyke “isn’t thought” to be on Warnock’s radar. If we had stick some cash on it, we might suggest Wyke is heading to Nottingham Forest instead.

The Lee Burge link is an odd one in itself. The Sunderland stopper may be able to save a penalty (four isn’t it from the season just finished?), but he’s not entirely been convincing between the SOL sticks. Burge has been linked with the Boro since last month. Fulham loanee Marcus Bettinelli is unlikely to return to the Riverside next season so Warnock will be eyeing up a few ‘keepers.

Denver Hume may well be the most likely to be heading up the A19, though the link has yet to be reported. Whatever the truth, it is a rumour that has circulated. The defender’s season has been curtailed by injury so it’s been a little tricky to gauge the current state of his progress as a first team regular. Still only 22, Hume established himself in the Sunderland side last season before his hamstring packed in. Warnock could do with cover at left back for Marc Bola.

Whomever it may or may not be, any new arrival landing in Middlesbrough from Sunderland will be joining the likes of Duncan Watmore and Paddy McNair as recent Wear-Tees switches.

Its known to be difficult to bring players North, so you get rid of that issue if they are already here! I also think that a lot of transfer talk is just lazy journalism..........team A needs X position and team B are letting a player that plays X position go therefore team team A must be interested.

They don't like if that they are our feeder club, Watmore and McNair , and maybe Wyke , Burge , O'nien .
Denver Hume ? Don't know much about him apart from he's a left back.

Well they are local and they are **** so what do Sunderland fans expect their best players to do. Not really difficult to understand if you are a shocking footbal team and there is a better club down the road they are going to jump ship. We take their better players, they take some of our fringe, declining players etc, kind of how it works until they eventually go out of business.

There appears to be envy of us and what has happened to Paddy and Duncan since they joined us.
I can understand their frustrations, but surely the energy wasted on their attempts at sarcasm [the lowest form of whit] would be more effective if it was directed at their club?
As we all know - we arent their local "rivals" (?!), but they do appear to spend a disproportionate amount of their time telling us so!
I hope Charlie does come back.
Hes too good for Division Three.

All Journalism is.......journalism.
If you read the Gazette / Mail / Telegraph - much of the football news is "sourced" from other platforms..
"News" has to start somewhere -
Speculation is the name of the game.

You have to say Mcnair / Watmore have been decent.

I imagine it winds them up. To be honest they had nothing good to say about Watmore. So not sure why they have issue with that?

Although in hindsite he may have won them promotion.

Watmore wasn't at Sunderland when we signed him was he? He was out of contract.
He was released by them. I am sure he was one of the ones we were apparently 'fascinated' with.

This thread is about our fascination in Sunderland players (although we really don't have one😂). So I guess Wyke isn't a Sunderland player if we sign him? He's clubless from the 1st June.

I mean.. there's something really satisfying about Sunderland deeming a player surplus to requirements and then excelling in the champo for us.

Who else can we get in for next to nothing?

GK Lee Burge - Free
CD Lamine Koné - Free
LB Denver Hume - Free
ST Charlie Wyke - Free
LW Jordan Jones - Loan
ST Josh Maja - Loan

are George Honeyman & Ethan Robson still knocking abound? pack of haribo and full tracksuit to get them on the promotion juggernaut

Bigger than who as They were even in league 2 when they won the cup. Almost FIFTY years ago

so yes mighty.

Enjoy Oxford

I can see some sense in looking at beaten playoff players from the division below. It suggests some of their players are championship quality. There may be good value to be had, particularly with younger players.

We show their rejects a bit of Teesside kindness, lift them out the cack, and help them make a success of their careers!
Jolly good show! ;)
