I always thought the way he handled the Burnley links was a leverage play, cause a bit of unrest, then next thing gibbo rings you to see if they a problem, there isn't but was a way to go over his January gripes about being backed etc
If that were true it would be a poor reflection of his ability to communicate, be part of an executive team, sell his vision, and be an inspirational leader for the club. A better man would simply use honesty, integrity and his results to bring the rest of the executive on the same strategic journey, not play silly games to manipulate people with far deeper and wider experience in the football business than he has.
Sadly though, I don't think it is true, I think he was interested in Burnley, but Gibson refused to let him talk to them. Rightly so after committing to a contract to manage us, then wanting to swap for something better within 6 months, despite being given the management team he wanted. This caused a level of distrust between Wilder and the other members of the executive team, but they had a desire to repair it.
Unfortunately his head started to be turned again by other offers and his heart wasn't in our job anymore. leading to the inevitable breakdown, which impacted the playing staff morale and ensured his position was ultimately untenable.
He wasted 12 months of attempting to progress at this club, wasted the chairmen and our money, and has indicated that he may have a dubious ethical code which I'm sure hasn't gone unnoticed in the football fraternity.
Ultimately he has hurt himself. He was sacked over 8 weeks ago now, not a peep from him in the press, I suspect their is either some legal action taking place or the threat of legal action should he make comment, because no doubt Talkshyt, Sky and other channels will have asked to speak to him in that time
