Wigan go into administration

From the bbc - The move may see the Championship side deducted points.

Hang on there’s no may about it that’s the rule, as much as I sympathise with their plight no one cared about us in 97 or 86 for that matter.
Yes good point zorro

That is some memory Erimus!
Laughing, as the players trooped off at HT with the score at 0-0 Rioch was the last one down the tunnel when he overheard one Wigan player say to another, these are awful, like a pub team, we should beat em easily in the 2nd half
Most likely that was Bruce's half time motivation speech, Boro went out & with goals from Mogga & Turnbull ran out 2-0 winners

I'm pretty sure it was Bernie who told us that story when he joined our Zoom meeting a few weeks ago, so yes, Bruce used it as his motivational talk.

If they finish outside the bottom 3 they will have 12 points deducted.
If they are in the bottom 3 they will start next season on -12

I've heard Bruce Rioch say it too, Bruce was good at those team talks over the next few seasons

Sounds like relegation then. In terms of purely football that's a huge shame, as they played some lovely stuff of late. But as has been pointed out above, rules is rules and nobody cried when we were deducted points.

According to talksport the penalty 12 points will not be taken off until next season.

TalkSPORT are wrong.

The only way it's not being taken off this season is if Wigan are relegated without it.
Given they're 8 points above the drop with 6 games left, that's not likely to happen.

That is unless talkSPORT have some new information that wasn't included in the EFL's announcement 19 hours ago.

Dont know mate. Just listening and Brasil and McCoist were talking about it.He finished by saying" we now understand that any penalty will be applied next season".
The original timing was if you go into administration before the end of March the penalty will be this season. With the league being suspended it could make a difference to the dates penalties are applied ?
Just saying what I heard on the radio.

They're still wrong.

Though Wigan will consider appealing the deduction and trying to blame the pandemic, so the deduction might not happen through that route.

They could blame the pandemic if they had owned it for 14 months maybe, not 4 weeks!

One of the criteria you have to show as an owner is sufficient funds to complete the season underway and the next season (part of the fit & proper). They became owners 4 weeks ago. I assume there is some wheeling and dealing going on behind the scenes to get out of paying all debtors of their new 'investment'. It is horrible for Wigan fans, but the punishment was brought in to prevent clubs being run as basket cases then declaring themselves bankrupt. It is an automatic penalty triggered by administrators being appointed who have to present their financial findings to the FA I believe.
