Why Jones not in Match day Squad?

I know that Carrick was asked this in yesterday’s press conference, but was not very convinced by his reply that it reflected more on the good players in the squad. I would have thought that Jones would be ideal to come on as a sub if we are chasing a game, with his pace against tiring defenders.
Is there something going on behind the scenes?

As I said on the other thread I think it’s clear and has been for some time that he’s not really rated as a first tester anymore.

I hope he stays but I’d be surprised

I strongly suggest, from what the boss has said on more than one occasion in many media conferences, everyone has their chance.
Its a case of consistent hard work and doing your best to show you deserve to be considered for each game.
As he repeated on Wednesday: not everyone can get game time when they want to.
As Carrick said: "thats football".
Attributing emotions to player selection isnt helpful.
"Fallling in" or "falling out" [of favour] is tabloid talk.
Carrick is well above that.
Isaiah will get his chance if he wants it hard enough.

Not sure how Carrick could have answered the question asked, if he said he wasn't good enough, then how would that be translated back to the squad.
This topic has been discussed on many threads, Carrick works with him daily and clearly doesn't rate him.
Most players under Carrick have improved and are enjoying their football, however Jones has not progressed in the same way, I think Isaiah will be sold or loaned out next season, unless he re-discovers last years form.

We normally play with 4 attacking players (e.g. Chuba, Archer, McGree, Forss) then two attacking subs (e.g. Ramsey, Crooks). Who do you drop to let Jones in?

Based on current board consensus - McNair definitely........😉

This.

With Tommy Smith giving solidity at the back (with some great overlapping), the addition of Archer and Ramsey (in particular) and their respective contributions so far has limited the opportunity for Jones to force his way back in.

Other options from the bench are preferred with our current setup and style of play.

Hopefully he'll get a chance and take it over the next few weeks. I don't think there's too much else to read into it.

I think what it was, Jones was a bright spark in what was an abject playing style. He was direct and excited us. For some reason under Wilder that was coached out of him and he lost all his confidence. Carricks play style demands that our attackers drive at their men and demands good defensive ability. You watch Forss, Mcgree, Ramsey and Chuba. They do the nitty gritty and they fly forward and aren't afraid to take a man on.

His delivery isn't fantastic, half the time he only picked out the opposition. Our attackers more often than not are pinpoint.
It's unfortunate and I rate Jones and I'd like him to stay but I can see him leaving regardless of division.

Oh how we have waited years for someone, anyone to do this. Now we have several that can :D

We all know what a fantastic season Jones had last season but this season he’s been unrecognizable from where he was a few months ago. Apparently he’s had a lot going off the field of play with family concerns but that shouldn’t have affected his game to the extent it has.

I don’t think it needs any disguising either that he’s had scouts from the premier league singing his praises but in all honesty I think many of those same scouts might be dissuaded by his lack of game time recently.

Personally I think he’ll be loaned out next season or if a club comes in with a decent offer we’d probably be silly not to accept it.

Apologies pal, but thats rubbish.
No problem pal, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
If Carrick does rate him then why is he not making the bench?
I guess we will see if he makes the starting 11 again this season, or the 18 man squad.

Who would you leave out from the bench to cater for him?

I do think he should be on the bench. I mentioned after the Stoke game that he would have been a good player to have brought on, as we were playing in front of them and they were easily able to deal with us.

They were leaving big spaces in behind because they played with a high line but we weren't able to take advantage.

Can’t believe people are questioning Carrick’s selections? I trust the manager’s decisions 100% and can’t believe he is constantly being asked about a player who doesn’t it appears on merit make the match day squad. He must be privately getting hacked off about having to justify Jones non inclusion. The views of some on here on Jones, based on a very limited period of time have been embarrassing- perhaps Jones read and believed he was the new Messi - In Carrick We Trust - can we stop ramming Jones down Carrick’s throat and concentrate on the lads who justify a place in the match day squad rather that letting some know they shouldn’t be getting Jones’s place.
