Who were your star men?

Really difficult one and I'm sure there'll be lots of opinions as there were big performances all over the pitch. Here's mine. Dominated by players who I thought defended superbly in that second half barrage.

*** Clarke - I thought he was excellent when he came on. supported Engel on that left side. Won so many headers in our own box, Positioning was superb throughout.

** Howson - A really sloppy pass in the first half could have been costly but that aside he was huge for us in the middle. Some excellent defensive work in our own area and started just putting his boot through it when we needed it. The amount of little toe pokes he got on the ball to stop Sterling and Mudryk getting shots off was incredible. A captain's performance.

* Fry - Similar to Clarke, positioned himself well all night and was winning everything in his zone. Some very good clearances under pressure with no time in and around our own 6 yard box. I thought Clarke slightly more eye catching for me personally but Fry really was brilliant as well.

Couldn't argue with anyone selected really but for me thought Barlaser was outstanding AGAIN.

I've criticised him previously on here, not for his quality on the ball, but his ability out of possession to press with intensity and close off spaces effectively. Did that brilliantly last night.

I would probably say the rest of the lads all get a 'standout' star for a whole host of individual reasons.
 
One of those games where everyone stepped up and delivered so hard to single anyone out. Don't think anyone was head and shoulders above anyone else. They all did very well.

Well done for the assist etc - but i don't understand why sky give Jones MOTM, they always seem to give it to him when we win a game on sky.

Quite often deserved, but sometimes I feel like it's lazy punditry just because he stands out for his pace and they ignore other excellent performances.

Based purely on statistics.

I don't think he can be considered close to man of the match when he made mistakes that should have cost him.

Cole Palmer missing an open net after he fumbled a routine save was a huge let off, but that won't be considered in stats, it'd just go down as a save.

He was comfortably man of the match against Villa, but I'd say he was just okay last night.

Fry was my man of the match. Headed absolutely everything and used his pace to bail out both Clarke and VDB on a number of occasions
 
Glover for me. Yes two fumbles but this time last year he was playing in the A-league, not under the cosh in a match against the CL winners of 2021. Made lots of good saves and didn’t look out of his depth.
 
*** Clarke (Immense, think Bangura going off and him coming on was a bit of a blessing in disguise given how good he was)
** Fry (Faultless display)
* Jones (Without him we wouldn't have got out of our half)

Honourable mentions to VDB and Engel but along with some others mentioned above made errors which should have been punished but luckily weren't
