Who is the best player in the history of football....

I’m glad so many list Son as their favourite, he’s been mine since seeing him live for Spurs against us at the Riverside. Wonderful unselfish team player.

But the best has to be an African player surely?

I’d pick Drogba ahead of Weah, Yaya and Eto’o. Mane and Salah are only halfway through their careers though.

I disagree, Eto’o was a better striker than Drogba and the best African player ever I think, Yaya the only other contender.

The thread should have ended after the first reply. George Weah all day long.

You make it sound like he was on a different level to anyone else. Drogba won 4 Premier League titles to Weah‘s 2 Serie A ones, won the Champions League (Weah didn’t) and was MOM in the final. In fact Drogba’s record in big games was phenomenal, something like 10 finals, 10 goals.

Eto’o won 3 La liga’s and Serie A, but 3 Champions League titles, so if anything has a better record, although you wonder how many Drogba would have won if he had Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho in the same team.

Yaya Touré has 5 la Liga and Premier League titles and one Champions League, so also very similar.

It’s a matter of preference really as all are very difference, but I go for Drogba because he is who I’d want alongside me in a big game and who I’d least want to be up against. The others you can make a plan to stop them, just, but no one managed to find a way to stop Drogba in finals, which is when you’d think they were trying their hardest.

It sounds like you've just gone through a load of stats to make your decision, I'm basing it on what I watched with my own eyes, yes Drogba and Eto were good but Weah was phenomenal at his peak.

I'd put Weah not far behind Van Basten and the Brazilian Ronaldo for the best out and strikers I've seen.

But look at what he did before Barça at Mallorca and after Barça at Inter, phenomenal numbers no matter who his teammates were.
