In relation to the Andy Townsend thread dredged up from the archives I was thinking who has been the most decorated player to represent the boro ( so all titles trophies count in their career not just those win with us) from any league as well not just uk ones.

So I have my ideas but I’ll wait for others first

So who would you say is our most decorated player ever ??

Victor Valdes will be up there
That would have been my shout as well. As he surely won the lot inc a World Cup winners medal

Barcelona[68]

Standard Liège

Spain[70]

Individual

Orders

So if it is him Let’s discount that and look at outfield players only.

Where does Bryan Robson sit in the honors list?
Quite far down probably. Was Utd's best player before they started winning things. Couple of leagues at the tail end but no European Cup/Champions League, no International honours.

Looks like Valdes is clearly at the top with his World Cup and European Championship on top of his club honours. Depends whether International honours trumps domestic on who comes second. Karambeu also won a World Cup and a Euros but didn't win as many Leagues or European Cups as Souness. Other players like Boksic, Ravanelli, Geremi, Juninho, Reiziger, Branco, Stiles all won World Cups or Euros or Leagues or European Cups. Depends whether you rank strength of league as well.

You could argue that Nobby Stiles had the most impressive record, given that he won the two major domestic trophies, the European Cup and the World Cup at a time when you only got into the European Cup by winning the League (or as holders) and it was a straight knockout.

I know he didn’t win a World Cup but doesn’t Bobby Murdoch’s honours count for anything?

I just missed him off the list to be honest but I had him in mind when I was talking about strength of league. I would assume the Scottish league was more competitive back then and Celtic were obviously good enough to win the European cup but was the rest of the league strong or was it a given that Celtic would win it every year (or at worst finish 2nd)?
