So who are they, Regardless of the formation or injury?

Dieng

Dijiksteel
Clarke
Lenihan
Bangura

I Jones
Howson
OBrien
Greenwood

Forss
Coburn

There isn't a left midfielder in that and we don't play 442 but I just wanted to get down what I thought our strongest team on paper is.

No I think Howson and O Brien will be stronger, I could have put him left but then I think Greenwood would offer more in attack.

We have no decent full backs and Fry has gone back to his worst.

Apart from that we are a half decent champo side.

We wont be relegated then hopefully someone at the club will sort out some proper defenders to play for this club.

Ala Jack Charlton & Karanka sort the defence or we will win fck all

Dijiksteel had some blinders under Wilder, he needs to get back to that level once he starts playing. Smith was a liability in the backend of last season.

That ' 442' I picked, easily swaps to other formations with Jones going left and Forss going right and Greenwood slotting in behind Coburn.

We are putting so much stock into this new strategy that everyone is talking about we forgot to get a first 11 that could compete at the top of the league. We have projects and hopefulls all over

I would switch formation for now in a 3-5-2 to tighten us up

………………………Dieng

………McNair……….Fry……. Lenihan (Clarke in for McNair if fit to play left side)

Jones… Hackney… O'Brien… McGree...Bangura

……………………Forss……(Greenwood or Lath, can’t decide)

It's pretty close to what I post over the last couple of days. Reasons being:

a) McGree isn't a winger, he's a progressive midfielder, so play him in a central 3.
b) Bangura and Jones are natural wingbacks, play them in that role.
c) All our CBs are better in a 3
d) get two forwards working together up front as a pair instead of all the weight on the shoulders of a lone striker.
e) Howson has been poor and shouldn't be in the side until he can get his fitness up
f) Crooks isn't a 10, he'll score the odd goal, but the ball will breakdown off him to often for that to win us games
g) plenty of options on the bench with 5 CBs at the club; Dijksteel coming back soon to challenge Jones, Howson and Barlaser as backup to CM; Engel as LWB backup; Rogers, Coburn, Greenwood as choices for Forss and Lath. All players that have and can play in those roles too. Not many square pegs in round holes.
h) Gives us solidity in teh centre of the park which is where we have been soft

I go with Coluka's side - I would play Lath ahead of Greenwood unless it was somewhere like Leicester away.

Again use Howson for the more difficult games instead of McGree.

Agree with pretty much all of that. Don't think it will happen mind.

I didn't realise that Clarke's injury was due to him having Sergio Ramos's skills grafted into him. 🤣 🤣 🤣

How he can be in our strongest 11 is beyond me.
It is known in footballing parlance as ‘The Wilder appurtenance’ a left footed, left sided CB is always going to be a better fit than a right footed player, similar quality presumed of course.

The replacements

Steffen - Dieng - looks good sometimes

Smith - RVDB - looks promising for a CB
Fry - seems to have gone backwards
Lenihan - solid and consistent
Giles - Engel or Bangura?

Howson - looks like time is catching up
Hackney - still looks strong

Jones - getting back to a good place
Crooks - ALWAYS looks a threat
McGree - did well last year

Forss - looks bright when he plays

Right Back - We defo needed to bring in a right back.. first port of call for me in January. I’d even try Deal Fry there to be honest.. we need to shore up that spot!

Midfield - Barlaser isn’t up to scratch, O’Brien is more of an Adam Forshaw type of player. Max Bird could have been interesting.. Terrel Agyemang still could be.

Attack - Latte Laff, Silvera & Rogers to replace the impact of Akpom, Ramsey & Archer. Theoretically is should be possible.. but they can’t take the place of last season front runners. Tom Cannon would have been nice..

Conclusion

Dael Fry at right back, RVDB in the centre (he’s taller and more vocal)

Terrel Agyemang looked MINT inlet season.. I would be very surprised if he wasn’t being strongly concidered as Jonny Howson’s long term successor.

Sam Greenwood should play further forward and Latte Laff hould play deeper.. Rogers is the new Marcus Tavernier.

January transfer: Right Back, Midfielder & Striker.. McNair, Barlaser & Coburn to go out on loan? Dijksteel & Coulson seem out of favour, maybe a move for them too

For me at least the same names..

RB Ben Johnson - West Ham
MF Max Bird - Derby
ST Julián Carranza - Philadelphia

Pretty sure I’ll be repeating them parrot fashion.. same as previous windows.. rocking backwards and forwards.

Dieng

Howson Lenihan Fry Bangura

Hackney O'Brien

Jones McGree Forss

Latte Lath

Would give Howson a go at RB as he's done a job there before and it would make us more solid defensively IMO.

Agree with much of that.

Then yesterday's game happens which proves a good chunk of it wrong, or at least it was wrong yesterday. Not easy is it?

Think it problem is the "strongest" 11 doesn't fill the positions in our formation, so we've either got square pegs in round holes or a compromise on quality for the sake of shape.

I think over the course of the season that problem will resolve itself, but it means we're not going to hit the heights of last year. Looking forward to seeing it evolve though.
