Which was the best year of the 1970's

Based on this compilation of the most popular songs each month that decade?

I realise there is a risk this could give masturbatory overload to Erimus74, but I'll take the chance.

For me, although there are some absolute bangers popping up here and there in the later years, it is a dreadful general descent into mediocrity and naffness as the decade progresses. No wonder punk happened.

1970 the clear winner for me, although 1974 is a decent runner up.

Boro stormed to the 2nd divison title
ABBA won the eurovison
Loved the 74 world cup which Holland should have won
I could go on & on
And I was now old enough to realise that girls wernt just for throwing stones at & pulling their pony tails :)
And…. I joined the Royal Navy on 6th August 74, George McCrea was number 1 with Rock yer Baby and Carl Douglas was number 2 with Kung Foo Fighting. Those were the days!

1971 based on the book by David Hepworth - Never a Dull Moment, is generally recognised as the greatest year. There's an excellent Spotify playlist of that year that provides a lot of back up for that opinion. My age means I'm slightly biased. The music when you're Seventeen is always the best, and that would be 1974 for me. The recent book "Mayflies" by Andrew OHagan also adds weight to this theory. The first section is based on a weekend trip made by him and his mates when 17 from Glasgow to Manchester to see their favourite bands. Worth a read.
But then again, just remembered Punk and The Clash live at Leeds Poly 1977. It's a harder question than it first looks........

1977 I left school, went to my first gig (The Jam) Also visited The Rock Garden for the first of over 100 times. Hitch hiked for the first time. We did the double over the Geordies. (Ok away game was in 78 but it was close enough)
I left on 77, never went to the rock garden though, my brother & a few of mates too but it wasn't for me back then

1976 for me, first Boro game, first cup final I can remember watching and the heatwave (probably nothing compared to now, with climate change?). Too young for real memories of anything earlier, but obviously that would be 74 based on the Boro. Honourable mention for 78.....great World Cup in Argentina!

76 for me as it’s when me and mates started venturing out in a gang in the Boro . A Saturday would roughly involve :

Start off in Romer Parrish upstairs for train display
Jack Hatfields to drool over Adidas Samba and ’screwy’ footy boots .( one day I’ll afford it ).
Saturday morning film show at ABC ( Convoy was popular )
Fearnleys records on Linny Road to see top 100 chart in window .
Boro fish bar for beans n chips ( in newspaper , tons of scraps )
squeeze at AP .

Great days and whole thing cost less than a quid 👍

1979. My daughter was born. Seeing your first child born, words can't describe the experience. You become a proper family we haven't looked back since.
The eighties weren't bad either 2 and 3 came along!
