The Marseillaise was sung with adapted words in south stand seats by the Joey's/ Frontline lads around 86/87/88, Leeds and Man Utd took.all the credit when Le Sulk( Cantona not Anelka) played for both clubs.
I remember being told by one of the many lads that went to the boro and the speedway meetings that EIO was copied from Grimsby Speedway fans. The Marseillaise was sung with adapted words in south stand seats by the Joey's/ Frontline lads around 86/87/88, Leeds and Man Utd took.all the credit when Le Sulk( Cantona not Anelka) played for both clubs.
Eio Eio Eio started with us but Millwall say they had a similar chant which goes way back something to do with their mascot Leo. I have heard Eio doing the rounds at some other clubs at the moment.
Again the lads in the South Terrace who used to do that kinda later did a mash up version of that and the nursery rhyme Frere Jacques, which had the words "we will knack you " repeated in some part of itonly set of fans to do the "stamp, stamp - clap"
I think this probably started with gladiators.not a song but I wonder if we were the only set of fans to do the "stamp, stamp - clap"
Don't think it goes back that far...I think this probably started with gladiators.
I can't recall Grimsby ever having a speedway team - Scunthorpe then Hull would be the nearest clubs at that timeI remember being told by one of the many lads that went to the boro and the speedway meetings that EIO was copied from Grimsby Speedway fans.
I wouldnt have the foggiest idea about Speedway teams so I may well have got the wrong team but I am certain that EIO coming from Speedway is the story somehow.I can't recall Grimsby ever having a speedway team - Scunthorpe then Hull would be the nearest clubs at that time
ClassicGeordies at home, watching the bill!!
Arguably the greatest football song ever!!
Help! I can't stop it playing. This song could get a makeoverwhich other clubs might copy.
