Here's one for you. Imagine the manager is in the prime of their footballing career. Would they be good enough to get in the team they manage?

Uncontroversial one. Michael Carrick. Yes. He would slot in alongside hackney quite nicely. Pretty much the ideal player for his own system.

Slightly more controversial. Gareth Southgate for England. Yes. I don't think we have close to the strength at centreback we had in the 00s. He would slot in alongside John Stones.

To be fair, I think the OP is referring to current managers. Although, in any case, the lower you drop down the leagues, the more you will find.
