Where the hell has the British blitz spirit gone

A people who rode adversity with a stiff upper lip now fighting in the aisles over bog roll and soap . If it wasn’t tragic it would be comical .

Conversations with my parents suggested there wasn't a lot of blitz spirit. The country was under effective martial law dictating what you did and where you went. Self preservation at a family level was the order of the day. Troops moved around the UK had mixed experiences in the houses they were billeted in. Doncaster was apparently a good, friendly place to be sent to. The south coast not so.

Are you referring to the 'blitz spirit' that saw the people of Middlesbrough smash the windows of Italian ice cream families? I'd warrant there is still plenty of that around.

My great grandfather was in the National Fire Service and once told me that wherever he was sent in the country, there were looters in and out of burning buildings while they were hosing down flames. Blitz spirit is alive and well for some, it seems, from panic buying and selfish attitudes this past week.

My thoughts same as o/p when I went to the supermarket last week. The 'blitz spirit' however could not have been all is made out to be. There was a juvenile crime wave, ration-book fraud. At least there would be streetcorner spivs to make sure you could still buy stuff.
