Whats your approach for tomorrow?

A different kettle of fish tomorrow.

Nothing drastic for me with it being the first leg. However you would think this would be our opportunity to at least go for a goal, or 4.

I would be tempted to go again with the 3 centre backs, and try to nullify and frustrate Chelsea.

My only change might be to start ELL, instead of Coburn.

Coburn put a good shift in, as ever, but I thought ELL looked a bit more livelier when he came on, and caused a bit of uncertainty with his pace.

Hopefully we can take a draw (or a small win ;) )to the Bridge to keep it interesting!

I think that we will see exactly the same approach again. Howson and Fry to come into the team. Perhaps Hackney to play in a more advanced role this time.
I though the midfield did well on saturday, very tidy, however when Howson came on he added even more composure, so I would completely agree with this

You will need more changes as Greenwood and Rogers are unavailable!

I think it will either be Crooks and Hackney behind the striker in the 3 at the back or revert to 4231 and Fry comes back in and Bangura gets moved the left wing with Crooks or Hackney in the 10.

Same back 5.

Howson in for Greenwood. Hackney to play where Greenwood was. Crooks in for Rogers if he’s fit.

Go for a very similar approach. We may be a bit more adventurous too since we now know we can perform in that system. 1-0 Boro win.

I think I would be more tempted to just play a midfield 3 if he's going to start Hackney/Howson/Barlaser to be honest. The best part of Hackney's game is his ability to play box to box and get us out of tight spaces. I don't think he'll be best used chasing balls in channels.
Maybe play Howson and Hackney with Barlaser slightly more advanced of them with a bit less defensive responsibility.

One thing that struck me after watching the Mackems earlier in the day, considering I would say both ties were quite similar in terms of league positions and squads etc, was our ability to control and move the ball, especially at the back compared to Sunderland, was night and day.

I know we see that most weeks, and MC wants them on the ball and to be comfortable, but to see it being successfully executed time and time again against a top top side really did give me even more belief in the 'process'.

Where as Sunderland looked like rabbit in headlights at the back with the ball at their feet. Night and day.

I think it'll be similar approach - keep it tight and try and stay in the tie for the 2nd leg.

Fry/Howson/Latte to come in for Rogers/Greenwood/Coburn

Think Bangura will play high on the left.

That's assuming Crooks isn't fit enough - the lack of minutes against Chelsea suggests he's not ready to start.

I expect the same approach as Saturday. Whilst, we looked more threatening when Latte-Lath came on, we cannot play like that for 90 minutes against a team like Chelsea.

I would love us to get an early goals Chelsea start slow and grow into games

We're quite limited in attacking midfield options. I'd be tempted to tweak it a bit and go 352 with Coburn and Lath up top.

I have a feeling we will play 3 centre halves again with wing backs, but Hackney, Howson and Barlaser will all start. We are desperately short of attacking options so flooding the midfield and allowing Hackney to play slightly more advanced makes sense.
